Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach, Head of Football Performance

The Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach, Head of Football Performance oversees the physical preparation of the Cornell University Football Program, working under the supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Strength & Conditioning and as an extension of the football program with close collaboration, partnership, and alignment with the Head Football Coach. This position designs, coordinates, and implements the football Strength & Conditioning programs for each segment of the year (in-season, winter program, spring football, summer and pre-season) and facilitates all aspects of speed, strength and conditioning for the football team, including weight training sessions, conditioning sessions, practices, and games. In addition, the Coach leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective nutrition, meal, and hydration plans and initiatives, as well as collaborates with the Athletic Training Staff to assist with rehabilitation programs and return-to-play protocols for injured athletes. This position may be responsible for other teams as assigned.


This position often requires lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 200 pounds. This position also requires the availability to work evening, weekend and holiday break hours, and travel, including overnight stays.


The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $98,000; final offer is dependent on relevant experience, skills and qualifications. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or a related field required, master's degree desired with at least 2 years of experience in football strength training at the collegiate level or above.
  • Required Certification: Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC - CSCCa); OR Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS - NSCA).
  • CPR/AED & First Aid certification (training provided by the university every 1-2 years).
  • Proficient in coaching Olympic weightlifting exercises.
  • Proficient in demonstrating and coaching sprint mechanics.
  • Experience collaborating with Athletic Training regarding injury rehabilitation, and possess a working knowledge of common medical terminology.
  • Experience assisting with Sports Nutrition and recovery education.
  • Experience using Sport Science devices and equipment such as velocity-based training systems, force plates, and GPS systems.
  • Experience tracking and management performance data.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining strict confidentiality and possessing a strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and common methods of digital communications.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • USA Weightlifting Certification.
  • 3 or more years of experience in football strength training.
  • Familiar with NCAA rules and regulations.
