Overview
POSITION TITLE:Associate Regional Director
REPORTS TO:Regional Director
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in supervising program interns, including contributing to their hiring, training and evaluation. May directly supervise one or more support staff.
LOCATION: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Grade/Class: Grade F, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Assist the Regional Director in planning, developing, and implementing advocacy initiatives, program activities and services in the community to advance ADL's mission within the assigned region. Manage the regional response to bias incidents. Assist the Regional Director in the administration of the office. Serve as back-up to the Regional Director as needed.
Responsibilities
Primary:
  • Respond to and resolve complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues. Conduct in-depth fact-finding research, initiating contacts and developing sources as appropriate. Coordinate with Civil Rights Area Counsel as appropriate. Ensure that required reports are maintained.
  • Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region e.g., African American, Hispanic, and Latino groups/Muslim leaders, and other faith leaders.
  • Manage social media for Connecticut Region.
  • Manage law enforcement relations and advisory council.
  • Recruit, develop and support volunteer leadership at all levels
  • Implement ADL programs and projects, tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Manage education and human relations programming such as law enforcement education and holocaust education. Conduct training sessions as needed for attorneys, law enforcement agents, and students.
  • Provide staff support and programming to volunteer-led committees which may include Education, Outreach, Nominating, Executive, and others as assigned.
  • Represent ADL and give speeches in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL's mission. Respond to inquiries from the press and from members of the public, demonstrating authoritative knowledge of ADL's policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events. Read, monitor, and respond to media reports and opinion articles.
  • Participate in government affairs activities, maintaining regular contact with state, local and national officials. Advocate for ADL issues in state and local legislature.
  • Monitor relevant civil rights lawsuits in the region and identify potential Amicus brief involvement. Keep the Civil Rights Area Counsel informed of developments. May coordinate civil rights debates.
  • Oversee assigned regional program staff and the programs for which they are responsible. Assist in the recruitment and supervision of office administrative support staff. Select and supervise interns. Ensure the smooth functioning of the regional office in the absence of the Regional Director. May assist in budget preparation and general office management.
  • Manage interns.

Secondary:
  • Participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors and assist in maintaining donor relationships.

Qualifications
Skills:
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong problem-solving, initiative-taking and project-leadership management skills.
  • Ability to use social media and networking applications.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel).

Work Experience:
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience including program and operational management experience.
  • Experience in public policy or advocacy related to bias, bigotry, racism or antisemitism strongly preferred.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree plus additional related college courses or professional training.

Work Environment:
  • ADL COVID-19 Protocol (updated periodically): ADL is adhering to public health guidance regarding COVID-19. ADL will require that all employees are vaccinated with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations. ADL is requiring proof of vaccination. ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.

Compensation:
  • This position has a salary range of $56,000 to $80,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
