Quality Assurance Technologist- Associate

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager

Location: Bremerton

Category: Full Time Non-Exempt

Shift: Days

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 DOE

JOB SUMMARY:

Under close supervision, assists in developing, executing, and monitoring the quality assurance plan with guidance from the Quality Assurance Department Manager with a focus on the Integration Department(s). Primary duty is the Bremerton Small Craft Facility but will work at the Tacoma Large Craft Facility as needed. Assists with and may performs some product inspections for the integration or welding/fabrication department and documents accordingly. Identifies and communicates ongoing QA concerns for resolution. Assist manufacturing engineers / technologists with problem solving. With support and direction from Senior QA Technologists, audit processes and provide process instruction. Overtime may be required in order to support production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • With support and under supervision and guidance from senior QA techs, conducts quality inspections during determined build timeframes/benchmarks
  • Recommend changes to existing processes, procedures, and product designs to improve product quality.
  • Recommend changes to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within system design limits.
  • With support and under the supervision and guidance from senior QA techs, audits processes and procedures to verify compliance with standards and to verify that equipment is used correctly.
  • May Interpret “basic” engineering drawings, schematics, formulas, and customer requirements to establish quality and reliability standards.
  • Use Company non-conformity and engineering change processes and databases to include data entry and analysis.
  • Aid in planning quality assurance work assignments.
  • Report deviations from existing standards.
  • Record test data and assist in application of statistical quality control procedures.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and travel, on short notice as necessary.
  • Ability to work well under compressed time constraints.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects at one time.
  • Understanding of how to utilize precision measurements.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and adept at learning new software systems.

  • Tools and Test Equipment: Use common hand tools and power tools and become proficient in the use of test equipment such as multi meters, watt meters, antenna analyzers, flowmeters, load cells, and strain gauges.
  • Problem Sensitivity: The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and report the problem appropriately. This does not include troubleshooting or solving the problem.
  • Near Vision: The ability to see details at close range (from several inches to several feet) of the observer.

Experience & Education:

  • Associate in applied science in a manufacturing, electrical, mechanical, or related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Two years of experience working as an integrator or fabricator/welder focusing on aluminum boats, ideally some of which should be in a leadership role
  • AWS (American Welding Society) or ABYC certifications strongly desired

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
  • Ability to bend, crouch, twist, balance, climb, lay and position one’s body in order to access tight spaces
  • Ability to lift and carry over 40 LBS without assistance
  • Ability to work in “the elements” outdoors- in rain, heat, cold, and wind- while conducting inspections
  • Ability to go underway on a SAFE Boats product in high sea states
