JLG Architects, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate General Counsel. In this director-level role, you will be the legal point-of-contact for all of JLG Architects and responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including negotiation of commercial contracts, including sales agreements, supply agreements, and general commercial advice.


This position will partner with Human Resources to interpret Federal, State, and Local laws impacting employee/employer relationships. You will collaborate with internal clients at all levels of management, to effectively balance the goal of minimizing legal risk to the business, while supporting and assisting the achievement of its business and strategic objectives.


You must have the ability to work confidently with a high level of independence and responsibility to provide legal advice and support directly to the business clients. This is truly a wonderful opportunity to shape our legal organization and strengthen our legal posture.

Location: This is a primarily onsite position and based in any of the following offices: Minneapolis, Fargo, Sioux Falls, or Grand Forks


Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and transactions and represent JLG Architects in negotiating and drafting Industry standard AIA sales agreements and varied business transactions.
  • Provide legal support regarding business law, and contract law for the purchase of goods and services.
  • Responsible for providing employment law support, along with being an active member of JLG Architects fiduciary committee for our 401K & ESOP.
  • Provide legal guidance and direction regarding ERISA and DOL requirements in support of Human Resources strategy.
  • Foster and develop internal customer relationships with business leaders, becoming a proactive member of the business team who can assess legal positions and provide support that creates a competitive advantage whenever possible.
  • Communicate and understand a wide variety of legal and business issues; provide legal advice and counsel that consistently enhances JLG Architects ability to formulate business direction and strategy.
  • Understand the needs of the business and act as a partner in solving problems.
  • Assist the business leaders in investigation of incidents which might give rise to claims, advise on legal liability, and negotiate claims and settlements.
  • Make recommendations to the Executive team, Studio Leaders, and Directors regarding the potential resolution of projects and transactions, including potential settlements and the initiation of legal proceedings against others.
  • Partner with external counsel where needed.
  • Conduct training for employees of JLG Architects in partnership with Human Resources on relevant legal topics, including compliance with antitrust, anti-corruption, trade, and data privacy laws.


Requirements:
  • 4+ years of commercial, transactional, and employment law experience.
  • JD from an accredited law school and membership in the Bar of MN, ND, or SD.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a medium to large law firm, preferably with national reach.
  • Experience working in a commercial/transactional in-house legal department.
  • Experience and solid understanding of ERISA.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with multiple teams and to prioritize accordingly.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Possess good business acumen (e.g., knowledge of basic financial information)
  • Ability to influence senior and executive leaders.
  • Additional consideration given to those with the following experience: trade compliance, AEC industry experience, data privacy, M&A, and real estate.
