Job description

Your Impact:

Our People & Places Solutions business – reinforces our drive to improve the lives of people everywhere and epitomizes the "why" of what we do – the tremendous positive impact and value our solutions bring to our communities and society as a whole. From facilities delivering life-saving therapies and ensuring clean water to enabling the connection of people through all modes of transportation and providing access to technology – we're integrating a multitude of these solution elements to build the smart environments of tomorrow.
Start your Jacobs career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow.

Jacobs’ environmental planning staff are part of a global network of employees, which serves both the private and public sector. Our employees work to shape the communities we live in by creating world-class projects that transform the future development patterns of those communities. We provide our clients award-winning planning, engineering, architectural and interior design, construction and program management, and design-build project delivery. The Jacobs business model allows us to successfully service our clients, leverage our integrated services, and provide our employees with growth opportunities while delivering global solutions to our client’s local programs. We consistently receive high rankings from Engineering News-Record (ENR) in many classifications, including the categories of Top Design Firms, Top Contractors, Top Green Buildings Design Firms, and Top Transportation Companies.

At Jacobs, you’ll work for a company that strives to provide opportunities for employees to learn, grow, and thrive. When it comes to environmental consulting, you will be a part of a company that is focused on a solutions-based approach to helping our clients and the environment through identification of sustainable practices that will benefit both.

As an Associate Environmental Planner based in any of our Northern California offices, you’ll have the opportunity to work on local projects as well as projects throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our “Future of Work” approach will offer you the opportunity to spend time working both in the office and from home.

Jacobs Environmental Planners do a wide variety of work. You’ll use and increase your knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental regulations to prepare environmental documentation and obtain permits and approvals for our clients. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your technical and leadership skills while leading planning and permitting efforts in order to avoid and/or minimize environmental impacts for a variety of infrastructure projects. You’ll bring your whole self to your project team and be surrounded by mentorship and career opportunities to help you thrive.

You’ll work with highly skilled and experienced members of our team as well as established clients that will provide you with the opportunity to continue to grow your professional network and your career. We have a strong commitment and culture of mentoring staff as well as senior level experts that really want to help you succeed and grow your career.

*This position can sit in either Oakland, Sacramento, Redding, or San Francsico.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Cultural Resources, or a related field
  • Proficiency preparing CEQA and NEPA analyses and documentation
  • Experience supporting infrastructure projects for state and local government agencies
  • Ability to foster relationships with project teams, clients, clients’ contractors, and regulatory agency staff
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Planning or a related field
  • Experience managing tasks and small projects and interest in supporting larger and more complex projects
  • Experience delegating tasks and mentoring junior staff
  • Additional, specific experience related to delivering environmental planning or permitting projects and obtaining project approvals from regulatory agencies
  • Interest in developing relationships with staff at state and local government agencies and supporting business development efforts

Jacobs health and welfare benefits are designed to invest in you, and in the things you care about. Your health. Your well-being. Your security. Your future. Eligible employees and their dependents may elect medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, and if eligible, a deferred compensation plan, and Executive Deferral Plan. We have an unlimited U.S. Personalized Paid Time Off (PPTO) policy for eligible full-time exempt employees, seven paid holidays, one floating holiday, and caregiver leave. Hired applicants will be able to purchase company stock and have the opportunity to receive a performance discretionary bonus.

The base salary range for this position is $81,100 to $126,750. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations [add if remote]. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
