Associate Engineer position for biological recovery processes at IFF’s Nutrition & Biosciences Process R&D in Wilmington, Delaware.  This represents a unique opportunity for an entry-level engineering professional to engage in cutting-edge biotechnology research. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team and work in state-of-the-art R&D laboratories and pilot plant facilities, encompassing the entire spectrum of process development, from initial discovery through scale-up phases, pilot production, and ultimately, the transfer of technology to manufacturing plants.

 

In this role, the individual will engage in meticulous planning and execution of engineering fundamentals and laboratory science to contribute significantly to the advancement of biotechnological research programs. The position entails a hands-on approach to process development within cutting-edge R&D and it is a role that promises to be fast-paced and a chance to be at the forefront of biotechnological innovation and industrial application.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will need to be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation below: 
 
To be qualified for this role, the following is required: 


⦁    A bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, or related engineering field or a bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, or related science field with > 4-year industrial experience.
⦁    Biochemical Proficiency: A solid understanding of biological processes, including enzyme kinetics, protein expression, and recovery is crucial.
⦁    Process Engineering: Familiarity with process design, optimization, and scale-up for enzyme and protein recovery.
⦁    Biomass Conversion: Understanding of biomass conversion pathways, including deconstruction, biological upgrading, and chemical catalytic conversion.
⦁    Equipment Operation: Knowledge of equipment such as centrifuges, microfiltration, ultrafiltration and filter press for cell separation, enzyme and protein development and recovery optimization.
⦁    Effective communication is essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams, participating in design reviews, and discussing design concepts with customers.
⦁    Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally to provide technical guidance.

 

Additional desirable skills include, but can be considered future development opportunities: 


⦁    While this is an entry-level position, any internships, research projects, or co-op experiences related to bioprocess engineering would be advantageous.
⦁    Knowledgeable and experienced in biotechnology and industrial R&D environment.
⦁    Experience applying design of experiments and statistical analyses.
⦁    Ability to optimize process parameters and predict performance using simulation tools.
⦁    Proficiency in Data Analysis and Statistical Tools like Excel, Python, or R for data analysis and experimental design.

 

The position is located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE.
