TheRole: The Price Reporter (Associate Editor) for Americas Container Markets is a reporter who takes responsibility for day-to-day reporting on the Container markets in the Americas
The Team: The right candidate for this role will be a curious, independent and enthusiastic team player with a keen interest for market reporting in a dynamic environment where market-moving changes occur every day. Platts is a well-regarded source of expertise in the energy commodity markets. Our price assessments are used to settle billions of dollars' worth of contracts every day. We foster a collaborative team environment that encourages working together.

Responsibilities:
  • Americas Container Market Assessments - Assessing the value of a defined set of container markets with sharp accuracy on a daily basis, performed through building industry relationships and establishing dialogue with the markets.
  • High-Quality Market Commentaries - Responsible for writing market commentaries associated with the container freight assessments to make readers understand what is happening in the market and the rationale behind the freight rates
  • Market News - Reporting news and analysis relating to and impacting Americas container markets, to help readers understand what is happening in the market place, including news about supply/demand developments, government data, new developments in regulations and analysis of price trends, and other relevant topics
  • Market Engagement with industry - Responsible for engaging with the shipping market sources in the region, including carriers, freight forwarders, logistics companies, beneficial cargo owners, port authorities and other parties impacting container markets
  • Provide thought leadership - developing the agency to push new creative ideas concerning key market and industry developments, through speaking opportunities at conferences, conducting webinars/podcasts, producing long-read features/analyses/blogs.

What We're Looking For: We're looking for the kind of person who can get quickly up to speed on the shipping markets and wants to own the job that they do. If you are right for this role, you will have a strong drive for news and analytical reporting. You will be an engaging self-starter, who enjoys working closely with a global shipping team, while reaching out to other commodity teams that impact tanker markets. Basic Qualifications:
  • Understanding of market fundamentals is necessary, in order to develop subject matter expertise.
  • Strong mathematical and data analytical skills
  • Accuracy under time pressure. It is critical that we deliver accurate assessments to the market consistently.
  • Excellent communicator
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Portuguese speaker preferred
  • Proven writing capabilities - this position will be writing news and analysis on a real time basis.
