ARMY magazine
AUSA's flagship publication, ARMY magazine is a professional military magazine devoted to the dissemination of information and ideas relating to the military art and science. The monthly publication strives to tell the Army story and explain the vital role of the U.S. Army to the nation's defense and around the world.
DETAILS
The magazine team is seeking a creative, conscientious, detail-oriented Associate Editor who can handle the editorial and production requirements for ARMY magazine, AUSA Extra and other AUSA publications as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fact-check articles, including for the monthly magazine, weekly digital newspaper and daily online articles.
- Proofread and edit articles to ensure they conform to AP and magazine style, ensure grammar, syntax and punctuation are used correctly.
- Edit articles to create better flow and clarity for readers and write suggested headlines.
- Ensure quality and style of magazine are maintained while editing for length and accuracy.
- Meet all prescribed deadlines.
- Occasionally write and produce original copy and perform other duties as defined.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in journalism, mass communications, English, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in journalism, communications field or equivalent.
- Excellent communications and editing skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and on a deadline.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Knowledge of the Army and military is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency with virtual collaboration formats (MS Teams, SharePoint) is a plus.
