Associate Director, Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies PR&D

The Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies Process R&D (VAXPR&D) department in West Point, PA is seeking a highly motivated scientist/engineer for our newly formed Operations team in support of our company's expanding vaccine pipeline.  The successful candidate will have a background in support operations for a technical/scientific environment and will be responsible for developing and maintaining an the various operational aspects of the process development laboratories. They will have experience with the strategic aspects of establishing a newly formed team with line of sight to potential managerial responsibilities.  They will be part of a team that will work closely with process development teams to provide support in the areas of equipment, facilities, procurement, and safety.  They are expected to work well in teams, including cross-functional collaboration with various support functions (e.g. maintenance, safety, environmental).  They will lead projects to renovate and improve capital assets to keep pace with changing requirements.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • BS/MS in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or Facilities Management

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years (or 3 years with MS degree) experience in support operations for a scientific/technical environment (e.g. facilities, equipment)

  • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills

  • Ability to balance long and short-term objectives.

  • Well-developed organizational, record-keeping, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with business methodologies to increase efficiency (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen)

  • Experience with building and environmental monitoring systems

  • Experience with procurement systems

  • Prior people management and recruitment experience

  • Experience with establishing newly formed teams

  • Knowledgeable in bioprocess unit operations and associated equipment, such as fermentation and cell cultures, ultrafiltration, normal-flow filtration, chromatography, and centrifugation.

  • Familiarity with GxP principles and regulations.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
