Responsible for managing Social Media programs for University-level accounts and assisting with sub-accounts. Plans and creates content, including video and photo content, to increase brand awareness while protecting and enhancing the reputation of the University. Trains the campus community on best practices while upholding the University Social Media policy and directory. In addition, this person must be committed to the educational mission of the University.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages @StMarysU accounts on platforms, such as Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn and YouTube and oversees efforts by Communications staff members who hold top-level account posting privileges;
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the University via Social Media; Works with the media relations leader to promote University achievements while seeking crossover success in traditional media.
  • Provides Social Media consultation to campus clients including training sessions (one-on-one or in groups) as necessary;
  • Manages the Social Media and Digital Content Coordinator;
  • Utilizes Later.com and similar tools for social listening to quickly identify crises and ensure online conversation is positive; Reports complaints or potentially dangerous activity to University administration and helps resolve the conflict, if necessary.
  • Implements initiatives to support the strategic and organic growth of and engagement with Social Media networks;
  • Connects with followers and influencers to share our news media, web and magazine stories;
  • Engages with audiences and answer questions in a timely manner;
  • Supports Enrollment Management and Advancement efforts via Social Media and videography to achieve enrollment and giving goals;
  • Directs, shoots and edits video projects for Social Media and other uses; provides live Social Media coverage of events via posting, livestreaming and other channels;
  • Uses analytics tools to measure Social Media effectiveness. Work with web content leader to discern Social Media ROI and to develop strategy/achieve goals;
  • Assists in taking campus photos for marketing, headshots, print material, event promotion, Social Media and the website in addition to external photographers;
  • Oversees coordination of photography for Gold & Blue magazines; works with Art Director and writers to select, hire, and schedule external photographers; Oversees external photographers for marketing purposes; attends shoots to provide photography direction;
  • Offers photography and videography equipment training and assistance to staff and student office workers.
  • Identifies and implements accepted practices and emerging trends in Social Media;
  • Oversees the efforts of the Social Media and Digital Content Coordinator to manage mascot appearances;
  • Trains and engages students, when appropriate, to advance our Social Media efforts and outreach;
  • Participates in professional activities within and outside the University community;
  • Maintains and manages the multimedia gear for the Office of Marketing and Communications;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English/communications, journalism, marketing or related degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • Five years of Social Media experience required, with at least one in a professional capacity. Experience in public relations preferred. Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint). experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom. Canva and Adobe Creative Suite skills are desirable.
  • Must have storyboarding experience and knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or other video editing apps.
  • Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including writing and editing, and the ability to adhere to University style guidelines.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive and effective relationships with members of the campus community.
  • Must have strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; must have the ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem-solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work weekend, evening and late hours as necessary.
  • Demonstrated capability or proven performance in Social Media.
  • Knowledge of prominent platforms and ability to adapt to changes within Social Media.
  • Design and Photoshop skills preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day-to-day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
