Overview

The Macalester Fund seeks a skilled communicator and strong relationship manager to increase fundraising capacity through oversight of a comprehensive leadership annual giving program (Grand Society gifts of $1,600+).

This role oversees communications, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for prospective and current leadership donors. It will manage all efforts related to the 25th Reunion Class Gift, and partner with the Philanthropic Giving team to secure increased gifts from Reunion year alumni. This role will also conceptualize and execute special giving opportunities and challenges for leadership donors and will employ highly personalized digital engagement to work with their assigned portfolio.

A key deliverable in the first year will be standing up a new Student Ambassador Program with the goal of engaging and qualifying prospective leadership donors. The successful candidate will play a critical role in cultivating and growing a pipeline of new donors for our upcoming campaign and drive increasing rates of Leadership annual giving. This role will have clearly defined goals related to activity, engagement, and fundraising outcomes.

This is a full time role, with a hybrid schedule (requiring 2-3 days a week onsite).

About the Department:

The Macalester Fund is the annual giving arm of Macalester’s Advancement team, supporting Macalester students who influence change for the better across the globe. Gifts to the Macalester Fund support all aspects of Macalester and provide broad, annual, and essential support for everyone in the Macalester community. The nine person Macalester Fund team works collaboratively to develop community-centric engagement and fundraising strategies to secure annual gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and parents. We approach our work through an equity lens, and pride ourselves on being innovative and forward-thinking.

Responsibilities

Coordination of Leadership annual gift solicitations

  • Manages a portfolio of up to 500 Leadership Giving prospects. Provides outreach, information, and invitations that increase engagement with Macalester, solicits annual gifts, and reports back to show the impact of giving. Execute monthly and quarterly touchpoint cadences to ensure consistent and relevant donor communication using a variety of channels (email, social, video conferencing, phone, in-person visits), and an AI fundraising enablement platform.
  • Works closely with the Philanthropic Giving team to coordinate and support leadership solicitations. Serves as a resource for best practices in leadership annual giving. Collaborates in establishing key performance metrics, ask amounts, monitoring progress, and delivering measurable results. Refers qualified donors to Philanthropic Gift Officers when appropriate.

Communications and special projects

  • Coordinates with Macalester Fund colleagues to maximize leadership contributions via direct mail, email, phone, text, and social media. Conceptualizes and executes special giving opportunities and challenges for leadership donors. Collaborates with Director of the Macalester Fund and the Donor Relations team to steward and provide impact reporting for leadership annual donors.

Student Ambassador Program oversight

  • Develops and oversees a strong Student Ambassador Program with the goal of incorporating student visits into the process of engaging and qualifying prospective donors. Partners with Macalester Fund colleagues to hire and supervise student workers to serve as Student Ambassadors. Ensures that student employees are provided training, information, support, and encouragement needed to experience success and serve as authentic ambassadors for Macalester. With support from the Advancement Operations team, uses currently supported systems and tools to identify prospective donors and enable student outreach. Adjusts strategies based on data analysis and outcomes of student outreach efforts.

Reunion and Volunteer Management

  • Manages all efforts related to the 25th Reunion Class Gift including recruiting and supporting gift volunteers, developing a gift pyramid, and creating and implementing strategies and tactics to reach participation and dollar targets. Partners with Alumni Engagement team to support 25th Reunion programs during planning process and Reunion weekend.
  • Develops gift pyramids for Reunion classes and partners with the Philanthropic Giving team to secure increased gifts from Reunion year alumni, including lead gifts from each class to be leveraged as challenge funds.
  • Works to secure gifts from Alumni Board members.
  • Collaborates with Senior Associate Director to help interested Class Agents solicit leadership gifts from their peers.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing projects and/or volunteers, soliciting philanthropic gifts and/or building relationships with clients, and comfort with engaging diverse constituents.
  • Knowledge of best practices in annual giving and volunteer management, including committee and board management.
  • Ability to analyze trends in relationship building and make recommendations about how to improve constituent experiences and engagement through that analysis.
  • Experience with project management of events, programs, and processes with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with email, social media, google, etc. Familiarity with Slate for Advancement or similar CRMs like Raiser’s Edge or Banner Advance. Ability to use multiple cloud-based platforms simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Handle confidential material responsibly.
  • Conduct interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully, and empathetically, including the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $62,000-$67,000, depending on experience.
