Job Summary
he Associa e Direc or of Finance and Opera ions provides managemen and supervision for he financial opera ions of he Depar men of Ma hema ics and S a is ics. In addi ion, his posi ion is responsible for he financial and facili ies ac ivi ies ha suppor he depar men 's academic, research, and ou reach missions.
Essen ial Func ions

  • Develops, assesses, and adminis ers complex depar men al budge s, projec ions and spending plans. Analyzes, forecas s, and nego ia es funding, making recommenda ions for shor and long- erm planning. Makes spending decisions ha suppor depar men opera ions and goals. Has signa ure au hori y on depar men 's major fund accoun s.
  • Serves as a resource and advisor on various fiscal ma ers, such as policies per aining o new funding ini ia ives, cos sharing agreemen s, opera ion of depar men al "cos cen ers," addi ional compensa ion, and facul y s ar up agreemen s; racking hese programs and heir impac on depar men al budge s. Ac as primary liaison o he financial s aff of he College of Na ural Sciences (CNS) Dean's Office regarding budge s and financial commi men s.
  • Oversees and supervises depar men 's business office s aff, who opera e wi h and main ain financial da abases, records, and rela ed ac ivi ies.
  • Direc s, develops and organizes depar men al adminis ra ive policies and procedures o assure efficien func ioning in suppor of research and ou reach ac ivi ies and compliance wi h Universi y accoun ing and purchasing policies. Develops financial ins rumen s for purposes of moni oring and repor ing accoun informa ion. Forecas s revenues and expendi ures for he developmen of new programs and ini ia ives.
  • Coordina es wi h College of Na ural Sciences research suppor s aff o prepare sponsored research gran budge proposals and jus ifica ions, final gran compila ion and prepara ion, and proposal submission in adherence o Sponsor manda ed financial regula ions.
  • Serves as s aff lead for Space Planning and Managemen , oversees depar men al space usage, repairs and renova ions. Serves as or supervises one of he depar men 's building represen a ives, oversees depar men al space inven ory.
  • Oversees and direc s human resource opera ions for facul y, pos -doc, gradua e s uden , and undergradua e s uden employees.
  • Develops depar men al opera ing procedures, and guides implemen a ion of new policies and procedures in areas of responsibili y.
  • Represen s he depar men a college business manager mee ings and execu ive mee ings wi h depar men s and divisions across campus.
  • Liaises wi h Procuremen , Con roller's Office, Facili ies and Campus Planning, and ou side agencies. Nego ia es erms of con rac s be ween depar men and vendors.
  • Provides ongoing raining and supervision for depar men al employees involved in business func ions of he depar men , including adminis ra ion of ongoing research gran s, purchases on depar men al and research gran fund accoun s, and organizing depar men sponsored func ions.

Minimum Qualifica ions (Knowledge, Skills, Abili ies, Educa ion, Experience, Cer ifica ions, Licensure)
  • Bachelor's degree and hree (3) years of relevan experience. A Mas er's degree in Business Adminis ra ion, Accoun ing, or rela ed field may be subs i u ed for wo (2) years of he required experience.
  • Supervisory, managemen , and raining skills.
  • Compu er skills necessary for fiscal adminis ra ion, including knowledge of da abase and spreadshee applica ions.
  • Working knowledge of budge ary and accoun ing principles and prac ices for federal, s a e, and non-s a e funds, par icularly for sponsored research ac ivi ies.

Preferred Qualifica ions (Knowledge, Skills, Abili ies, Educa ion, Experience, Cer ifica ions, Licensure)
  • Bachelor's degree in in Business Adminis ra ion, Accoun ing, or rela ed field.
  • Experience wi h budge s, budge analysis and projec ions, equipmen acquisi ion, and accoun ing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of higher educa ion adminis ra ion policies and procedures, par icularly hose rela ed o fiscal adminis ra ion.
  • Excellen organiza ional and in erpersonal skills. Excellen oral and wri en communica ion skills.
  • Abili y o coordina e complex projec s and o func ion under ime cons rain s and deadlines.

Work Schedule
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.
  • May require some work during nigh s and weekends.
