The Position

The Associate DirectorHealth Systems Strategy is part of a team responsible for developing channel strategies to ensure the best possible access position for existing and future Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) products. Identifies and delivers a deep understanding of changes and trends across the healthcare ecosystem, integrating the Health Systems landscape into channel strategies, across therapeutic areas. Supports execution in Health Systems with an enterprise-wide mindset, ensuring a consistent and focused approach to Health Systems opportunities in the future. Delivers on key elements of value communication, therapeutic area market development strategy, and payer marketing for Health Systems and non-retail channels in order to optimize access and increase channel market share.

 

Relationships

Reports to Senior (Sr.) Director, Channel Strategy.  Interacts frequently with colleagues across Market Access and Public Affairs, and internal stakeholders from Marketing, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Finance, Commercial, Field Sales, and other relevant departments. Close collaboration with Director Health Systems Strategy. Ensures strong collaboration across functions to maximize portfolio and brand profitability and revenue and to support our account teams in achieving optimal access for Novo Nordisk brands.

 

Essential Functions

  • Partners with Director Health Systems Strategy to use industry, reimbursement, and disease area expertise to provide strategic direction and planning in ways that reveal new opportunities, potential threats, and mitigating actions
  • Helps inform, and executes on, overarching strategy for Health Systems business approach, ensuring cross-functional support for strategic direction, in order to achieve short-term and long-term business objectives
  • Ensures close collaboration with Medical Affairs, HEOR, Marketing, Finance, and Field Sales to identify business needs and gaps, and develop training plans and solutions
  • Ensures all field facing Health Systems teams are equipped with the right tools, resources, programs and information
  • Ensures access strategies are aligned with Marketing regarding portfolio/brand segment positioning and messaging, and with NNI and Novo Nordisk’s long-term goals
  • Recognizes opportunities and conceptualizes/pilots initiatives to drive strategies, processes, programs, and/or engagement models
  • Assists in development and execution of value communication and contracting strategies to Health Systems and non-retail channels for Novo Nordisk products
  • Influences and drives organizational change and continuous innovation in an effort to enhance the effectiveness of our account management approach across business units
  • Leads promotional reviews for Health Systems and non-retail value communication tactics and point of contact lead for agency management. Responsible for collaboration with PRB, compliance and legal partners to support approval of resources and tactics
  • Develops and oversees implementation of key success metrics. Regularly reviews program progress to accomplish goals
  • Contributes to annual brand planning and budgeting process to represent health system and non-retail channels needs across the organization
  • Adheres to administrative policies and procedures and encourages others to do the same
  •  

    Physical Requirements

    10-20% overnight travel required.

     

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor 's Degree in Business or equivalent experience. MBA or another advanced degree preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree, when appropriate. 
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in any of the following areas: pharmaceutical sales, marketing, channel strategy, non-retail, Health Systems, market insights, analytics, pricing, contracting, managed markets, account management, finance, or consulting OR a minimum of five (5) years of experience in market access strategy in the pharmaceutical industry required.  An advanced degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
  • Ability to translate strategies into measurable tactical programs that have high ROI
  • Excellent relationship management skills to build and maintain positive relationships with senior leadership representatives      
  • Strong understanding of the US payer and Health Systems environment, and how decisions are made across private & public channels
  • Have strong interpersonal; communication; analytical and project management skills
  • Requires leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision
  • Ability to access and influence various functional areas and motivate groups to action without direct line management responsibility
