We are seeking an experienced Associate Director of Content who will play a pivotal role in both managing our technical writing team and driving creative marketing content initiatives. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about leveraging their expertise in life sciences to drive impactful content strategies that resonate with the scientific community. We are looking for candidates with a solid background in science communications, exceptional writing skills, and proven leadership abilities. Experience with technical contentis a must. This role will report to the Senior Director, Commercial Marketing and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of technical writers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the highest quality of technical documentation
  • Set clear goals and objectives for the content team, and track progress towards achieving them
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including user manuals, product specifications, and scientific reports
  • Ensure that technical content is accurate, clear, and accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and validate technical content
  • Develop and execute content strategies to support marketing initiatives, including collateral, website content, blog posts, social media posts, and promotional materials
  • Write compelling and engaging content that effectively communicates our brand message and value proposition to target audiences
  • Collaborate with marketing and design teams to create multimedia content (e.g., videos, infographics) that enhances our marketing efforts
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure timely delivery of content across various channels
  • Conduct research to identify relevant topics, trends, and keywords for content creation
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of content initiatives, and make data-driven recommendations for optimization
  • Work closely with other departments, including product management, marketing, sales, and customer support, to align content strategies with business objectives
  • Collaborate with external partners, such as agencies and freelancers, as needed to supplement internal resources

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, English, communications, marketing, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in technical writing, content creation, or a related role
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effectively manage and develop a team
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Strong understanding of scientific concepts and terminology, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible content
  • Experience with SEO best practices, and digital marketing tools
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize projects, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds

  • San Diego, CA

Travel: 

  • Domestic travel up to 10%

Job Type:

  • Full-time/Exempt

Base Compensation Pay Range:

  • $156,000 - $184,000


In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off. 

Please note: Base compensation will depend on multiple factors, including geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
