  • The Biomarker and Bioanalytical Science & Technologies (BST) department at Takeda is seeking a strong scientific and strategic leader to serve as a resident pathology/IHC assay expert to support implementation of pathology biomarkers in clinical development programs across therapeutic areas and modalities.
  • The candidate will work closely with the translational scientists and key stakeholders across Takeda to support implementation of fit-for purpose pathology/IHC biomarkers and delivery of key assays and data to clinical trials to facilitate decision making.
  • The candidate will advise teams on best practices and biomarker assays/technologies, as well as investigating novel technologies for clinical readiness and implementing as necessary.
  • Maintain and enhance image management system and methodologies for routine image analysis as well as advance machine-based learning algorithms for feature extraction of histological images.

How you will contribute:

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As a BST pathology subject matter expert, participate in program team meetings (e.g. clinical and translational subteams) and provide insight and support in general histology, IHC, ISH, imaging and analysis, and other tissue-based assays.
  • Evaluate, select, and oversee external labs and vendors to ensure successful design and execution of clinical assays, including validation, longitudinal performance, data quality, and timely delivery.
  • Develop and present biomarker results to translational teams, and collaborate with translational biomarker lead and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with translational sciences, statisticians, computational biology and other poartners to analyze and interpret data in the context with other clinical data.
  • Lead development of innovative approaches to new assays based on emerging scientific insights, new technologies and/or program needs.
  • Other responsibilities include serving as a scientific lead on diligence of cutting-edge technologies, establishing external partnerships (e.g. scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners, CROs, and health authorities), mentoring other scientists, and actively publishing/presenting in the external scientific community.

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Strong scientific background and experience with assay development and validation across technology platforms in pathology, especially those that are clinically amenable (e.g. IHC, ISH, IF, and multiplex assays).
  • Strong understanding of and experience in Digital Pathology technologies and workflows including image analysis software such as Visiopharm and/or HALO.
  • Demonstrates well-developed knowledge of other disciplines / departments and how they function together.
  • Demonstrates exceptional project management skills.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in pathology, immunology, or related discipline with at least 8 years of relevant experience beyond post-doctoral training, including at least 4 years of industry experience.
  • Strong scientific background and experience with assay development and validation across technology platforms in pathology, especially those that are clinically amenable (e.g. IHC, ISH, IF, and multiplex assays).
  • Strong understanding of and experience in Digital Pathology technologies and workflows including image analysis software such as Visiopharm and/or HALO.
  • Experience with advanced analysis tools such as deep learning algorithms or AI and/or other technologies such as genomics, spatial transcriptomics, etc a plus.
  • Disease knowledge and experience in oncology and/or gastroenterology.
  • Experience with outsourcing and working with external partners to develop/transfer assays and to oversee data generation/analysis and delivery of high quality data within expected timelines.
  • Familiarity with clinical documents and processes, i.e. clinical protocols, informed consent forms, laboratory manuals, central lab logistics, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to influence and inspire, takes initiative yet team-oriented and collaborative, and able to navigate and be effective in large matrixed environments.
  • Prior leadership and mentoring experience a plus.

LOCATION:

  • The role is based in Cambridge, MA

Base Salary Range: $143,500-$205,000. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.

The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
