Associate Counsel
About the role
Coalition’s Legal and Compliance Department is seeking an experienced and highly-motivated Associate Counsel, Contracts to join its growing team. The Associate Counsel, Contracts will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts, providing high quality work product under tight timelines. Reporting to Coalition’s Assistant General Counsel, the candidate must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, build collaborative cross-functional relationships, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and analytical capabilities. This role will support and advise finance, operations, insurance, and technology business partners in the evaluation and development of contracts. A successful candidate must have strong attention to details, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and must possess the ability to anticipate and deliver on the needs of an innovative business team in managing a wide range of contracts.
Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of contracts, including but not limited to vendor, non-disclosure, technology/SaaS, and master service agreements
Provide legal guidance to internal stakeholders on contractual matters, ensuring alignment with organizational and risk management objectives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and tailor contracts accordingly
Identify potential legal risks in contracts and propose strategies for mitigation
Develop and/or improve standard contract templates and processes
Manage workload, prioritize, and elevate issues where appropriate with little direction
Achieve mastery of Coalition’s contract management system
Work with external legal counsel when necessary, ensuring timely and cost-effective legal support
Stay abreast of industry best practices and trends in contract law
Skills and Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school along with a license to practice law/member in good standing in state of residence
2+ years experience practicing law, with a focus on contract drafting and negotiation
Strong understanding of contract law principles and proven track record of successful contract negotiations
Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external stakeholders and to resolve issues in a professional, assertive, and proactive manner
Ability to work independently, make sound legal judgments, to think and act strategically, multi-task, and follow through on tasks in a timely fashion
Collaborative, detail-oriented, and analytical mindset, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in prioritizing competing deadlines while remaining focused and organized
P&C insurance industry experience a plus
Ironclad experience a plus
In-house experience a plus
Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $100,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $150,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
