The Associate Counsel will assist the SVP & General Counsel and Associate General Counsel to provide contract management and legal support and service to the Orlando Magic organization and its affiliates. This includes administering the contract management system, reviewing, drafting, negotiating, managing, and interpreting the Magic’s business contracts and operational agreements; and ensuring compliance with applicable law and NBA/ECHL/GLeague/2KLeague rules and regulations.
What the Associate Counsel will focus on:
- Primary responsibility for agreement, amendment, and payment authorization process for the ticket sales department.
- Primary responsibility for training ticket sales staff on information needed for agreements
- Review, draft, and interpret sponsorship, premium seating, and marketing agreements.
- Review, draft, and interpret promotions, contests, and sweepstakes rules.
- Review, draft, interpret and manage event agreements and third-party vendor agreements.
- Review, draft, interpret, and manage broadcast agreements, waivers and releases for organizational events.
- Review sales and marketing promotional materials.
- Research various legal issues and provide written and verbal legal opinions as needed.
- Assist with the development of company policies and procedures.
- Administer contract management system.
- Performs analysis of relevant NBA/ECHL/GLeague/2KLeague rules, regulations, and governance documents;
- Conduct legal research and advise the organization on various regulatory issues, keeping current on changes in the law and proposed legislation affecting the organization.
- All other duties as assigned.
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school required.
- License to practice law in the state of Florida or ability to register as Authorized House Counsel required.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required.
- 2-4 years of legal experience required.
- Law review participation preferred.
- Full-time work experience or internship with the legal department of another sports organization preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of corporate, sports, intellectual property, privacy, and contract law.
- High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
- Judgment and discretion to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others, and company documents and records.
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management and business associates.
- Intellectual curiosity and strong research, analytical, and investigative skills; ability to document and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office products, DocuSign and/or Ironclad, and other related computer skills required.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects.
- Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
- Strong team synergy skills and ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over.
- Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
- Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
