This position is responsible for supporting their Category Manager in all aspects of category management, supplier management, and COGS control. Specific responsibilities run the spectrum from formulating and executing strategy to the administrative tasks required for implementation. This position is located in-office 4 days a week (with 1 day remote) at our Central Store Support office (Rockville, MD).   
  1. Collaborate with the Grocery Category Manager to achieve sales, margin, and unit growth, while fulfilling MOM’s promise of an incredible selection.  
  2. Perform category reviews.  
  3. Balance shrink with assortment.  
  4. Collaborate with the merchandising team to create & update planograms.  
  5. Manage suppliers on multiple fronts: negotiating costs, fill rate, and generally solving issues quickly as they arise.  
  6. Develop and maintain productive supplier relationships; participate/lead in broker/brand/distributor meetings.   
  7. Support Coordinator in upholding ingredient and sourcing standards.  
  8. Review financial period close reporting and create actionable items to reduce shrink, control COGS, gauge category health, etc.
Requirements:   
  • 2-3 years’ experience in category management, purchasing, and supplier performance management in either Grocery or Wellness (preferably in Retail Natural/Organic channel)
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong supplier partnership relationships
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills with multiple stakeholders
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and easily meets deadlines 
  • Enjoys working with large amounts of data, creating reporting, and analysis   
  • Ability to sort through market data to develop consumer insights for making product assortment decisions  
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Pivot tables, Google Suite and POS/IMS systems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks that change frequently and manage unexpected demands  
  • Dependable, follows instructions and takes initiative to solve problems  
  • Interest in company culture and desire to grow in the field
