The Aladdin Engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and operating Aladdin, BlackRock’s investment and operating technology platform. Within the Engineering COO office, the Business Management team is responsible for the overall health of Aladdin Engineering as a business. We are seeking an Associate Business Manager to report to the head of Business Management.

We are scale operators supporting an organization of more than 3,000 people, and focus on a broad array of areas including headcount strategy, recruiting, people topology, budget, P&L, and vendor strategy. We manage sizable datasets, hunt for efficiencies, and develop process and operational controls.

At a more macro level, we cascade information to large audiences and are responsible for keeping some of the most senior leaders plugged into the pulse of the organization – this role will provide immense exposure to enterprise processes and stakeholders across the world’s largest asset management firm. The hire must be a passionate, hardworking, and self-motivated go-getter with a unique blend of people and business skills in order to keep pace.

The initial focus of this role will be on people-centric processes including headcount planning / reporting, recruiting strategy, people systems (e.g. Workday), and multiple associated programs of work. This will require at least some prior experience in a business management, talent acquisition, or human resources role.

In addition, a candidate with a well-rounded background that touches other parts of our core functions is preferred. Any experience in financial planning / analysis, accounting, analytics / metrics, vendor management, or procurement would be very useful.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert in our full hiring cycle and act as the gate for all things hiring in our org.
  • Proactively manage hiring data in our people management software (Workday), including opening requisitions and guiding each through to completion.
  • Interface with our Talent Acquisition team throughout the hiring process.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with our internal (often technical) stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Capture requirements, connect them business value, and translate them into easily understood reporting and actionable plans.
  • Manage elements of new employee onboarding and handoff to people managers.
  • Collect metrics and report on hiring performance, headcount trends, geographic distribution of our population, Diversity / Equity / Inclusion, etc. Ensure we can effectively measure performance and use data to inform our decision making.
  • Understand and manage the financial implications of our hiring practices, including playing a key role in budget creation and monitoring.
  • Participate in associated people processes such as internal mobility, location mobility, immigration, and more.
  • Manage the division’s people hierarchy and associated cost centers.
  • Join meetings to learn from senior leaders about strategic relationships, direction, and governance, and summarize key points and follow ups.
  • Prepare presentations on strategic growth, financial performance, operational governance, and other critical items.
  • Focus on process improvement, finding ways to achieve the desired outcomes with fewer manual touchpoints while simultaneously improving transparency to key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience, preferably in a business management, human resources, or talent acquisition role.
  • Some exposure to at least one enterprise grade HRIS tool (Workday a major plus).
  • Advanced Excel Skills: Ability to track and manipulate significant datasets in Excel.
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Writing Skills: Ability to produce quality presentations and synthesize key information using data and analytics.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate upcoming deliverables and objectives, influence stakeholders and effectively manage projects with clear and inclusive guidance.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage diverse set of stakeholders, build long term relationships, and create a collaborative and approachable environment, especially when working across departments or on time sensitive matters.
  • Problem Solving: Structured critical thinker with superior problem-solving abilities who can organize people under pressure and pull in key decision makers to prioritize issues and respond to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrate integrity and a commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Nice to Have:

  • Financial Planning + Accounting: Ability to manage requisitions + POs, perform invoice review, P&L impact analysis, etc.
  • Background in an enterprise grade ERP system such as TM1 (preferred), SAP, IBM Cognos, EssBase, etc. (Coupa a plus).
  • Real estate / facilities management experience.
  • Technical, product management, project management, or Agile background.

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $125,000 – $150,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
