A Civil Litigation Law Firm is a fast-growing litigation firm with offices in Peoria, Illinois, Galesburg, Illinois, Edwardsville, Illinois, and Melville, New York. Our team is growing, and we are looking for an aggressive and motivated Attorney to work primarily in our Municipal Law department.Applicant must be an independent worker who can handle a high volume of cases in a fast-paced environment. Applicant must also have strong written and verbal communication skills. A writing sample is required with submission of your resume. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
As a Municipal Attorney, you will play a crucial role in providing legal support to multiple municipalities throughout Illinois. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of cases, conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and represent our clients in court. - Assist with our role as legal counsel for multiple municipalities
- Routinely work alongside department heads and civic leaders
- Conduct negotiations with local unions
- Draft legislation, local policies, and regulations
- Attend board, county, village, and city council meetings as required
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and contracts
- Assist with case management and preparation for litigation
- Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of municipalities
- Represent municipalities in court proceedings, including administrative hearings and trials
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
- Strong public speaking, writing, and research skills
- Knowledge of legal administrative procedures and practices
- Proficiency in using legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Prior municipal and/or local government experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with legal drafting and litigation is strongly preferred
