Pacific Life is looking to invest in bright, agile new talent to ensure we continue to innovate and strengthen relationships with our policyholders. We're actively seeking a talented Associate Actuary to join our Statutory Valuation team in Newport Beach, CA and take part in our people-first culture. The role can be on-site or Hybrid.
As part of the Statutory Valuation team, you will be responsible for supporting the ongoing transformation efforts to Statutory valuation of life insurance products. You will be a part of the team tasked with reporting Statutory and Tax reserves, working with the Financial Reporting team. You will fill an existing role that sits on a team of six people on the Statutory Valuation team. Your colleagues will include fellow actuaries and valuation professionals.
How you'll make an impact:
  • Support Actuarial Transformation initiatives to improve and automate the entire end to end valuation process, including input data gathering, reserve calculations, and financial reporting
  • Maintain and enhance valuation modules and the end-to-end valuation process for statutory and tax financial reporting
  • Prepare and monitor monthly valuation runs, including the calculation of reserves and the generation of required financial reports
  • Analyze reserve increases and research unexpected patterns
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for statutory reserves, and represent the valuation team in working with other teams such as Product Design and Reinsurance, providing valuable insights and recommendations based on expertise and analysis
  • Follow new regulatory developments, such as Principle Based Reserves, and implement required changes to the valuation process and reporting
  • Respond to audit and regulatory exam requests
  • Validate Interpolated Terminal Reserve quotes for Client Services
  • Provide data for annual Actuarial Memorandum and other certifications
  • Train and manage external consultants that have been hired to assist in Actuarial Transformation initiatives and the completion of business-as-usual activities
  • Enhance existing Statutory analyses by improving efficiency and/or building new metrics and insights using various data analytics and visualization tools
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to build, test and validate reporting of both required disclosures and key internal management metrics
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and request supporting the Valuation area as needed

Tech & Tools You'll Use
  • PolySystems, FIS Prophet, Alteryx, R, Tableau, Snowflake, MS Office

The experience you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, or related field
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • 6+ years of actuarial experience
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Effective time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted provides a basis to determine the appropriate offer dependent upon several factors including but not limited to geographic location, experience, skills, education and pay equity. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$138,400.00 - $173,000.00 - $233,600.00
