CA+P is a community of award-winning and highly recognized faculty, entrepreneurial students, and support staff that together form a creative community unlike any other. The College is currently made up of the School of Architecture, the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning, and the Division of Multi-Disciplinary Design. CA+P is also home to two research centers-the Center for Ecological Planning and Design and the Metropolitan Research Center (and a third, the Design Institute for Health and Resilience ( DIHR), launching in 2024) and three collaboratives: the Healthy and Resilient Places (HaRP) laboratory, the Transforming Places, Practices, and Pedagogies (TP3C) Collaborative, and the Contemplative Architecture, Landscape and Multi-disciplinary Experience Design Centre ( CALMED). CA+P enrolls approximately 575 undergraduate and 145 graduate students and employs 25 tenured track faculty and 7 career-line faculty.

CA+P is at the leading edge of transforming architecture, design, and planning education and research, with recent successes that include a recruitment and retention strategy resulting in 150% growth over seven years. CA+P has one of the most diverse faculty and staff on campus, and high-ranking and accredited programs, including the Master of City & Metropolitan Planning, which is ranked #7 Small Program in the Nation (by Planetizen) and #12 Public Architecture Program in the U.S., as ranked by College Scorecard. CA+P is also home to renowned public engagement programs in the state such as the DesignBuildUTAH@Bluff, a program that works with the Navajo Nation, as well as an exemplary record of research supported by national and international agencies.
The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications is responsible for the breadth of communication and marketing functions across the college and its units. The Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for creating strategy, content, publication and marketing materials related to the College of Architecture + Planning's communications as well as internal and external communications including (but not limited to) news releases, social media, newsletters, and direct mail.
The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications will also be a part of the college's development team. Under the supervision of the Director of Advancement, this role will assist with development functions, including cultivating interest from alumni, current and prospective students, and community partners, as well as creating content and materials that aim to attract private support for the College of Architecture + Planning. The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications will assist in managing alumni contact information and communications.
Responsibilities
1. Develops, monitors and executes marketing/communication plans in collaboration with the leadership of the College that align with the goals and needs across the College and units, and adjust the plans as necessary.
2. Creates practices and procedures to streamline communication systems internally and externally, and develop system to track and manage all communication requests.
3. Markets and promotes new and existing programs, services, and initiatives across the College to internal and external audiences. Works with departments to ensure programs and initiatives are promoted and compiled on a central calendar.
4. Develops written content that advances the College's communications and marketing strategies to key constituencies, including alumni and donors. Written content includes direct mail, emails, web content such as news stories, profiles/features, promotional/marketing copy, press releases/media advisories, newsletters, etc.
5. Under the direction of the Dean (or delegate), initiates and manages website redesign that utilizes current responsive web design and voice-search. Will oversee all communications with website design vendor.
6. Manage all social media platforms for the College, including content creation and creation of annual social media calendar.
7. Supervises student workers, social media interns, and vendors such as graphic designers, web developers, printers, photographers, etc. that support the functions of publication development for the College's web, print, and social media.
8. Assist with the stewardship of donors, such as gift acknowledgments and annual recognition. Assist with gift processing and maintaining alumni/donor contact information in UNITE. Assist with large printings, mailings and mass emails to CA+P's community members.
9. Manages and assists with the execution of select CA+P events, including alumni receptions and lectures, Advisory Board meetings, graduation, and other events as needed. Manages all communications around events.
10. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships. Ensures customer satisfaction by responding to complaints, concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate follow- through.
11. Independently manages other special projects as requested by the Dean and/or Director of Advancement.
12. Perform other duties as assigned when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point for correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, etc. Familiarity with communication tools, particularly MyEmma, and social media channels. Preferred competency with Adobe InDesign and/or Illustrator. Strong interpersonal skills and customer service. Professional manner with the ability to express oneself clearly and empathetically in interactions with others in all forms of communications, verbal and written, one-on-one and group,
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results.
Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively. Takes responsibility and initiative to set and meet the goals, objectives and obligations while representing the mission, visions and values of the College.
