We are seeking our next Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Veterinary Anesthesiology (clinical or tenure track). As an Anesthesiologist, you will provide high-quality anesthesia and analgesia to support the small, large, and zoo-exotic animal services within LSU School of Vet Med and the teaching hospital. The Anesthesiologist in this position will contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology, and teaching of clinical veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to veterinary students, interns/residents, technicians, and cooperate with other faculty members in training interns/residents. The successful candidate will join four other full-time faculty, two-three interns/residents, and seven dedicated service technicians.
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Anesthesiology- Clinical Track
  • 60% Anesthesia support for the small, large and zoo-exotic animal services within the teaching hospital, and participation in after-hours emergency service. Clinical responsibilities will be shared with other members of the anesthesia service (total of 4 anesthesiologists, 7 technicians, up to 2 residents and/or interns).
  • 25% Contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology and teaching of clinical veterinary anesthesia and analgesia to veterinary students. Contribute towards didactic and laboratory instruction in veterinary anesthesiology to the anesthesia house officers and technicians. Cooperate with other faculty members in training interns/residents. Contribute towards Louisiana's community by collaborating with LVMA and BRAVMA annually continuing eduction. Active participant in the college of specialty, ACVAA.
  • 10% Serve on committees within VCS and the SVM.
  • 5% Independent and collaborative research endeavors.

Minimum Requirements:
Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent degree; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program.
Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and 5 years of related research / teaching / clinical experience; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and
Analgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program. Diplomat status from the ACVAA / ECVAA.
Full Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and 8 years of related research / teaching / clinical experience; Successful completion of an American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA / ECVAA) approved residency program. Diplomat status from the ACVAA / ECVAA.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education Level: DVM

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):
Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, sitting, bending, crawling, squatting, and/or twisting.
*Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality. Minor Contact - This position and/or position's responsibilities require work directly with minors. Finger printing and National Sex Offender Registry check required per FASOP HR-04.
