Job Description
The Assistant Writer contributes their writing skills to a variety of projects. These projects include researching story ideas; writing scripts for the monthly video-news magazine show and daily radio-news broadcasts; coordinating dates/times of shoots and interviews; and researching/writing other assigned video and marketing projects. The Assistant Writer also helps teach writing to adults with developmental disabilities and teaches JDS Creative Academy writing classes. This position reports to the Head Writer or Executive Director.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum two years of professional writing experience
- Excellent researching, editing, and proofreading skills on original content
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
- High attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, and time management skills
- Willingness to work with adults of all abilities and talents
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of G Suite, especially Google Docs
- Writing scripts for videos, television, and/or film
- Writing radio copy
- Journalism
- Digital media
- Entertainment industry production
- Teaching ability
- Desire to work with people with disabilities
Job duties are not limited to this job description, and additional duties may be assigned. All employees support the nonprofit where and when needed. Position is M-F, and 4 - 6 weekends a year.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.50 - $20.50 per hour
Expected hours: 37 – 40 per week
