Hour Per Week: 40 Rate of Pay: $72,883.00 - $78,874.00 Status: OPEN UNTIL FILLED Apply Now Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the general guidance of the Superintendent of Water/ Wastewater Systems, performs supervisory duties for the Water Distribution, Wastewater Collections and Water Productions departments involving the complete operations of the Water Systems Department. In general, schedules, action plans, scopes of work, reports, letters and memorandums utilizing a computer and various software applications.
Typical tasks include assigning, reviewing and supervising the work of personnel engaged in the operation of City's water supply, production, storage and control facilities; schedules and coordinates maintenance of City's water supply, production, storage and control facilities with contractors, utilities or other entities. Confers with the Water/Wastewater Superintendent to review and discuss day-to-day operations and to plan activities for optimum effectiveness in personnel and material utilization; Collaborates with the Administrative Manager and makes recommendations for annual departmental budget; prepares activity reports; trains subordinates in water production and operating procedures; responds to emergencies affecting City's water supply and production and storage facilities; insures compliance with applicable safety regulations, on-site OSHA compliance and administrative policies. Ensures wastewater collection system equipment is installed, repaired, and maintained in compliance with City of Gallup and standard operating procedures.
Evaluates employees work performance and provide counseling, reprimand and disciplinary action as needed and in compliance with effective Union Contracts and State and Federal Labor laws. Responsible for the enforcement of safety rules and regulations. Is required to respond to emergencies during non-working hours weekends and holidays.
Must possess a working local number wireless telephone. Performs other related work as required. Requirements for 24-hour/seven days per week emergency on-call are applicable.
Must be able to respond to calls and report for duty from place of residency within 30 minutes. Additional Information STARTING HOURLY PAY: $72,883/DOQ MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, (GED) Valid driver's license (state of Residence). Must meet City's insurability requirements.
Two (2) years college or technical training in biology, mathematics, chemistry, water & wastewater treatment or other related field plus five (5) years of directly related experience. Water Level II Certification required and Wastewater Operator II Certification -OR- in lieu of Wastewater certification; Five (5) years direct experience, of which three (3) years would have been in a progressive supervisory position in work related to the operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment systems. Ability to obtain Water Operator Certification III within twelve (12) months of hire Ability to obtain Wastewater Operator Certification I within twelve (12) months of hire and up to a level III or higher within three (3) years of hire, or equivalent thereof, as recognized through State of New Mexico reciprocity PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering -OR- Associate's Degree in Water and Wastewater Technologies Or greater than 5 years direct experience in Water and Wastewater.
Water / Wastewater Operator III or higher Hold a Journeyman's license from a related Trade Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A or B (state of residence), with medical certificate Other Conditions: Must pass a background check.
