PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill this CU’s vision of inspiring financial wellness. The position must deliver high quality service to both internal and external members by supporting and promoting our values to Care, Listen, Learn, Solve, and Act.
The AVP, Major Projects is responsible for the oversight of the Special Projects team including successful completion of strategic projects for the Credit Union. The position will also participate in defining the process improvement strategy, including identifying, prioritizing and implementing process improvement opportunities. This position reports to the VP, Internal Operations.
The AVP, Major Projects leads, manages and holds accountable the Major Projects Team and the Process Improvement Team.
Essential Duties
- Effectively coach performance and develop all direct reports to set expectations, achieve goal attainment, as well as short and long term personal and corporate goals
- Recognize, develop, reward and challenge key talent
- Leads, manages, and holds staff accountable the Major Projects Team & Process Improvement Team for achieving agreed upon commitments. Responsible for the development and training of staff, ensuring staff are well trained in all phases of their jobs. Administers annual, monthly, and in-moment coaching and review of employee performance. Approves employee timecards. Sets goals for the upcoming month and develops plans to improve employee performance
- Effectively operates department and staff goal setting and meeting structure within EOS framework, to include establishment of regular recurring L10 meetings, goal setting and people analyzer tools to support right people right seat strategies.
- Defines the credit union’s process improvement plan in alignment with the strategic plan. Accountable for developing a process improvement plan that meets or exceeds goals for efficiency improvements and which establishes accountability for updates in training and documentation to support changes.
- Manage strategic projects through entire project life cycle including intake, planning, implementation and closure as assigned.
- Oversees the Major Projects team including managing projects, communicating project status, and may perform some project tasks as required.
- Facilitate creation of project plans and project template documents.
- Coordinate project meetings; assist in creating agendas and meeting objectives, document follow-ups and ensure team participation.
- Act as liaison between vendors and credit union project stakeholders; co-ordinate activities between groups and develop requirements by eliciting objectives and tasks through vendor discussions.
- Craft project status updates to recently completed work, upcoming work, risks and successes for the benefit of project teams, Executive Management and Board of Directors.
- Identify and manage resources for process improvement projects. When appropriate, develop baseline and post-implementation metrics to measure improvements.
- To determine requirements and drive process change using staff interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, and workflow analysis.
- Assist in the development of documentation and training to support process changes.

Required Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management or 5 years experience managing project implementations; ability to plan, organize and direct work associated with projects and project teams.
- 1-3 year’s experience facilitating the project management lifecycle to include Intake, Planning, Implementation and Closure phases
- 3 year’s experience with Credit Unions, Financial Institutions or Financial Industry; able to incorporate consumer needs and objectives into business considerations.
- 3 year’s experience successfully leading teams.
- Lean Six Sigma or similar certification
- Must possess strong leadership and management experience, including coaching, training, motivation, time management skills, and performance coaching.
- Must be proficient in the use of basic Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Must be self-motivated with exceptional time management, organization skills and attention to detail.
- Must have well developed analytical and problem solving skills; to solve problems as they occur and escalate as needed.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal relationship skills, ability to motivate and direct work through the efforts of others, discuss problems and solutions with all levels of staff and management and be approachable to the team.
- Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Displays, diplomacy, patience and tact when dealing with members and staff

Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
