This Opportunity
Are you an Electrical Engineer who enjoys the technical aspects of projects as well as project management and client relationships? WSP is currently recruiting an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer to join our growing Property & Buildings team in Boise, Idaho. The ideal candidate will have a background in building electrical design, energy conservation and resiliency, an understanding of electrical systems, building simulation modeling, good communication skills, and ability to work with a group of experienced professionals.
We are looking for an individual with technical, project management and business development capabilities. In this position you will provide solutions for your clients and lead business development initiatives.
Your Impact
  • Lead Electrical Engineer capable of directing a project team.
  • Apply high-level Electrical Engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various building and infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Involved from project inception to completion in the management of electrical design and construction of building projects, including rehabilitation or remodel and new construction projects.
  • Implement future-ready Electrical Engineering solutions within the built environment.
  • Design complex and large electrical medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems and electrical building systems (i.e. general power, lighting, grounding, etc.).
  • Provide technical leadership on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to electrical systems and specifications, power distribution systems, lighting, communication systems, lightning protection, and power backup systems.
  • Lead the electrical project team in the development of high-quality construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Lead and collaborate with BIM technicians and junior engineering staff to develop electrical construction documents.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineering staff in the completion of Electrical Engineering tasks of varying complexity.
  • Develop and manage workplans to effectively manage staffing resources on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Effectively collaborate with clients - typically architects or owners - to ensure project goals are maintained and executed efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships to build WSP's portfolio of work in the Boise area.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Idaho Professional Engineering license.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Highly proficient with Electrical Engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of building, electrical, and energy codes.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant Electrical Engineering and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, load calculations, discipline-specific design software, industry-standard technology, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • The ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Competence and comprehensive knowledge concerning adjacent disciplines such as P&C, SCADA, and telecom.
  • Additional industry-specific certifications or registrations (LEED AP, DBIA, etc).
  • Member of local or national professional practice organizations (IEEE, DBIA, AIA, BOMA, etc).
  • Flexibility to work and travel outside normal business hours as required.
