Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises team of professionals and provides regular feedback, professional development and mentorship. Responsible for evaluating individual and team performance.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
1. Alumni Engagement Strategy:
- Provide input and work to implement a comprehensive Alumni Engagement strategy aligned with the university's goals and priorities.
- Create and execute programs that strengthen ties between alumni and the university, fostering a sense of pride and connection.
2. Collaboration and Relationship Building:
- Collaborate with university leadership, academic departments, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for alumni involvement and support.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with alumni, both locally and globally, to enhance their connection with the university.
- Serve as a liaison with the alumni professionals in academic departments and other administrative units.
3. Event Planning and Execution:
- Oversee the planning and execution of various alumni events, including reunions, networking opportunities, and special celebrations.
- Ensure events align with the university's brand and contribute to a positive and memorable experience for alumni.
4. Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and manage alumni volunteers to participate in various engagement initiatives actively.
- Empower volunteers to serve as advocates for the university and contribute to the success of alumni programs.
5. Communication and Outreach:
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies to keep alumni informed and engaged.
- Utilize various channels to share relevant news and updates with the alumni community, including social media, newsletters, and publications.
6. Metrics and Assessment:
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of Alumni Engagement initiatives.
- Regularly assess and analyze data to make informed decisions and strategy adjustments.
Specific Job Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in Alumni Engagement, fundraising, or related fields.
- Knowledge of best practices in Alumni Engagement and higher education advancement.
- Knowledge of management principles, including personnel and budget administration, and advanced skill in implementing personnel and budget operations and practices.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, including attentive listening and the skill to think quickly and respond appropriately.
- Ability to understand and follow UAF and UA policies and procedures.
- Leadership/management skills, including leading, directing, mentoring, evaluating, and motivating staff.
- Ability to make good decisions and exercise judgment and discretion.
- Experience working with volunteers, community leaders, faculty, staff and students.
- Ability to understand constituency needs related to institutional needs and skills in designing solutions or strategies to achieve consensus.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Nine (9) years of full-time related experience including a minimum of five (5) years of managerial experience.
- Successful candidate has a proven track record of leadership skills and familiarity with higher education operations and university advancement, especially Alumni Engagement.
- Strong multicultural competency; extensive experience and working knowledge in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Successful candidates must have the ability to drive. Ability to travel by commercial airlines and/or rental within assigned regions as needed.
Work Environment
- In-state travel will be required.
- Occasional out-of-state travel involving commercial airlines and overnight stays may be required.
- The AVP will be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
