Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Veterinary Technician, will oversee the overall daily care of patients in the treatment area. The Veterinary Assistant with they will assist technicians and doctors with restraint, medicating pets, etc. The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for keeping the treatment area clean, stocked and well maintained. The Veterinary Assistant will also ensure that all animals have food and water if permitted, are walked regularly, have clean and dry cages and assist with restraint.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for general care and husbandry of patients.
- Ability to obtain accurate weights, temperatures, pulse and respiratory rates
- Provides assistance in handling and restrain of all animals
- Assist technicians and doctors with medical care of pets.
- Assist in recovering sedated animals
- Record eliminations and appetites in medical record
- Report any change in animal behavior or condition directly to a technician or doctor
- Responsible for bathing and nail trims
- Keep the treatment area clean and free of debris and clutter
- Stock treatment area
- Responsible for admitting surgical patients
- Monitor patients
- Must be 18 years of age to participate in radiology
- Other duties, as required.
- May be required to work outside of normal office hours and/or to fill other shifts including evenings, weekends and/or overnights.
