POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Assistant ULV Foreman involves an in-depth knowledge of mosquito control operations to include public health insecticides, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray equipment, Pasco County roadways, mosquito inspections, and the ability to execute complex field-oriented application decisions.

The Assistant ULV Forman is responsible for managing and executing nightly ULV adulticide missions. He/she is responsible for keeping accurate records from their nightly mission including chemical usage and areas treated. Knowledge of the Mapvision computer tablet and the A1 Mister program is essential. In addition, the employee is responsible for noting any map changes of the Pasco County treatment zones.

Duties include the direct supervision of ULV staff.

This Employee is responsible for identifying problems with District equipment and coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of all District equipment including, but not limited to, automobiles and spray equipment with the Shop Supervisor.

During the peak mosquito control season, hours of operation for this full-time Assistant ULV Foreman position are generally 4:00pm to 4:00am as needed.

Employees are expected to work independently of supervision and are required to exercise initiative, problem solving skills and good judgment in carrying out their duties.

Employees must have and maintain a valid Florida driver license and Public Health Pest Control License throughout their employment with the district.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • This Employee must be able to accurately interpret pesticide labels and make proper pesticide applications using information contained within the label.
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge of adulticide techniques and ULV equipment used.
  • Operate, maintain, and service ULV spray equipment.
  • Provide annual safety training to ULV Drivers and new hires with additional recurring training performed as necessary.
  • Interpret pesticide labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Work with pesticides according to product labels.
  • Understand ULV spray techniques and treatment zone navigation.
  • Create maps of new treatment areas and update maps as the landscape changes.
  • Communicate and manage public relations situations to optimize mosquito control operations.
  • Organize, analyze, and maintain operating records.
  • Accurately record data from the ULV night treatment missions.
  • Comply with the district’s safety program in pesticide application and equipment safety as required by federal/state laws.
  • Operate equipment such as light duty trucks with spraying apparatus which requires the manipulation of simple controls.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Ability to direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Computer skills, including knowledge of the Mapvision program.
  • Ability to initiate and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Result oriented, ability to achieve the target goal(s) within a given time frame.
  • Effective conflict resolution.
  • Have knowledge of and operate the A1 Mister program

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Applicants must have a High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D certificate.
  • Acquire and maintain a current valid driver license issued by the state of Florida.
  • Must acquire and maintain a current Public Health Pest Control License issued by the State of Florida DACS within the probationary period.
  • Must be able and willing to work at times outside the regular scheduled workweek to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing to work with insecticides.
  • Must be legally allowed to work in the United States

COMPENSATION and SALARY RANGE

  1. The salary for the ULV Foreman falls within the District’s 106 Pay Grade ($48,193.60 - $72,300.80).This is an exempt position and employees are not eligible for overtime. The salary of new hires may observe more aggressive adjustments in the first few years of employment. Raises are reflective of COLA and merit.
  2. Employees of this class are eligible for full-time employee benefits and are enrolled automatically in the Florida Retirement System.

Physical Requirements: Moderate-to-strenuous physical activity is required on a periodic basis including lifting, carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, squatting, walking, kneeling, bending, standing, climbing in and out of various equipment and vehicles and climbing up and down ladders. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, grip and operate a variety of automated/computer related equipment.
