UW Finance encompasses the major central financial functions for the University of Washington, including Enterprise Services, Financial Accounting, Sponsored Financial Programs, Student Financial Services, and Treasury. The Assistant Treasurer for Endowments reports to the Sr. Associate Treasurer for Treasury Operations and is responsible for advising and counseling campus partners on complex gifts to the university.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Assistant Treasurer for Endowments will lead the area over endowments, externally managed trusts, deferred gifts, stock donations, and other related complex gifts to the University. They will be responsible for managing the day-to-day related processes, which support the research and educational activities of the University. They will oversee University relationships with banks and Kaspick, the University's external trust and deferred gift manager. They will also manage a staff member to oversee the endowment administration for the University.

Strategy Development and Leadership
•Build bridges across the functional areas in the Treasury Office as well as to University process partners to ensure communication and implementation of cross-functional work is done efficiently and effectively so that complex gifts are accounted for in accordance with university policy
•Advise and partner with campus partners to create strategies regarding complex gifts, improving processes, and documenting procedures
•Partner with campus leaders in reviewing complex gifts, managing the endowment process, and working with external and internal stakeholders with regard to externally managed trusts.
Provide leadership and management to the Endowment team. Also, provide leadership to the Treasury Operations (TOPS) team in collaboration with the Senior Associate Treasurer:
•Manage the day-to-day operations of the endowment and complex gifts area
•Work with a diverse group of individuals
•Manage work and teams in a matrixed environment
•Responsible for management, staff development, and career enrichment of staff
•Train and cross train staff and other Treasury staff as needed to ensure organizational sustainability
Program Development and Management
•Provide counsel, oversight, and operational support on endowment processes. Advise on endowment set up, distribution strategies, implications, and any possible risks to the donor or to the organization. Provide input on endowment investment management.
•Consult and advise senior leadership and campus partners on complex gifts to the University and administration of the CEF investment pool.
oOversee all aspects of the CEF investment pool
oAssist in setting up and reviewing trust agreements and all related documentation for compliance with laws and UW policies
oWork with externally managed trusts at banks and with other institutions that are part of the trust agreement to partner with them to come to decisions on stewarding these trust assets for the university
•Ensure the accuracy of the consolidated endowment pooland the information contained in Workday.
•Manage and ensure contributions and distributions are done accurately for all of the endowments for the UW.
•Review and ensure these deferred gifts are set up and distributed correctly on an annual basis or when terminated. Consult with planned giving colleagues when new gifts are being received or potentially impacting the University.
•Review and ensure that donations are done according to policy, works with donors on complex stock donations, ensure timely liquidation of positions.
•Consult with process partners across campus (Advancement, GCA, financial accounting).
•Collaborate with the FIN Operations team to implement and stabilize the Workday ERP system.
•Continually implement process improvement utilizing our external partners as well as technology to accomplish developed objectives.
Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field and 5 years of progressive experience with endowments, complex gifts, or fostering fundraising relationships. Experience in fundraising is preferred, but not required. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for a degree.
•2 years of progressively responsible leadership/management experience; demonstrated commitment to developing others to become leaders.
•Excellent analytical and exceptional project management skills
•Excellent communication, verbal, and written skills.
•Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to UW Finance and UW's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

•CTP, CTA, CPA, or other advanced credentials or degree
•Workday experience
•University of Washington or higher education experience
•Experience with institutional advancement, including experience managing a portfolio of major donors and major gift requests
