Assistant Teaching Professor Physics and Astronomy
About this Opportunity
The Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications from individuals with a passion to teach undergraduate (and potentially graduate) courses, and contribute to the success of the department through research and service. The department features approximately 80 undergraduate students across its majors in Physics, Astronomy, Physics Education, and Pre-Engineering, as well as 12 students pursuing our Master's degree in physics. Also playing a crucial service role to the institution, the department serves approximately 700 - 1000 students each semester through various introductory courses. And, in addition to featuring a state-of-the art Planetarium that attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year, the department will be moving into a newly renovated building in May of 2024 that contains brand new teaching labs, classrooms, research facilities and observatory, and office suites.

Description
A continuing non-tenure line faculty position in physics is available August 2024. The successful applicant will teach, primarily, introductory courses for majors and non-majors, though the opportunity to teach advanced physics courses will be available. Additionally, there will be expectations to participate in departmental and college level service. And, while there is no research expectation for this position, participation in scholarly activity is encouraged, particularly for those seeking promotion to associate or full Teaching Professor. This position is renewable on an ongoing basis.
Minimum Qualifications
A master of science in physics, physics education, science education (with an emphasis in physics), astronomy, astrophysics, or related field from an accredited institution, and completed by date of employment.
One year teaching experience at the college level gained concurrently or at any time.
Authorization to work in the US
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in physics, physics education, science education (with an emphasis in physics), astronomy, astrophysics or related field from an accrediited institution at the time of application. Experience teaching introductory Physics and/or astronomy courses for majors, non-majors, and/or pre-service elementary education majors. A strong commitment to the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Effective communication skills in both the classroom and laboratory setting, with three or more years of successful post-secondary teaching experience.
