As an Assistant Teacher, you will help the Lead Teacher in the lesson planning and activity coordination according to approved curriculum designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment. In addition, you will promote and participate in all center functions, communicate with, and develop positive relationships with all family members.
SHIFT HOURS: 9:30am to 6:30pm
Duties:
- Be able to work as a team and have a willingness to learn
- Assist with the organization and adherence to a daily schedule
- Adherence to all State and Discovery Point policies and regulations
- Communicate in a friendly, professional manner with parents, staff, and management
- Maintain a welcoming, upbeat, positive atmosphere in classroom
- Always maintain safety and cleanliness of the classroom
Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains the classroom to ensure a safe, fun, and age-appropriate learning environment.
- Takes appropriate steps to clean and sanitize classroom, materials, and restrooms.
- Ensures classroom is always clean and ready for tours.
- Treats the children with dignity and respect, displaying friendly, enthusiastic, and caring behavior.
- Recognizes and considers the background, special talents and interests, style, and pace of learning of each child.
- Provide developmentally appropriate activities.
- Reports any injuries or accidents to Management immediately and completes necessary forms.
- Supervises the children as required by the Center and state regulations.
- Participates with children in activities in classroom and playgrounds appropriate.
- Assists the Lead Teacher with parent conferences; provides daily written feedback to parents as appropriate.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information on children and their families.
- Reports suspected abuse or neglect as mandated by state regulations.
- Attends all staff meetings, training sessions, meetings, and programs.
- Commitment to complete annual state licensing training requirements.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Director and/or Owner.
Qualifications:
- Must meet state licensing requirements for education and experience
- Must be able to meet state background check requirements.
- Ability to obtain training in CPR/First Aid, Fire Extinguisher, Food Safety Handling, and other training required.
- Must be willing to obtain a minimum of 24 in-service training hours per year
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- DCF Transcript showing the following are completed:
- Part I (30 hours)
- Part II (10 hours)
- Early Literacy for Children Birth to Three (5 hours)
Florida State Teaching Requirements:
Experience required:
- 1 - 2 years teaching experience
- At least 1 employment reference and 2 personal references
