Position Description: Assistant Teacher Child Development Center
PROGRAM SUMMARY: The Children’s Beach House is a private, non-profit organization organized under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a public charity. CBH was founded in 1936 by Lydia Chichester DuPont with the mission of improving the lives of children, youth, families, and communities by helping them to identify, understand, and utilize their own strengths, talents, and resources. The Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center (MHRCDC) a program of CBH located at 1800 Bay Avenue in Lewes, Delaware. The mission of the MHRCDC will be to prepare preschool learners, some of whom have developmental communicative challenges. The MHRCDC will develop a language-rich environment with an individualized approach to learning for children of all abilities.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher reports to the Head Teacher. As part of the education team, with support from the Head Teacher, the Assistant Teacher helps to plan and participates in classroom and playground activities. These activities are designed to foster or enhance all areas of the child's development.
Responsibilities
- Implementing curricula in the classroom
- Assisting Head Teacher in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning instruction
- Guiding and facilitating activities of the children, including: daily activities, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom;
- Cooperating with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children
- Developing a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline
- Assisting Head Teacher in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of child development and in accordance with the program's curriculum
- Observing each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth
- Establishing a positive relationship with each child's family and share information about the child's day at the Center
- Attending staff training and meetings
- Assisting in providing and maintaining a safe and healthy developmentally appropriate environment
- Assisting in implementing children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan) seeking clarification for any aspects that are not well understood
- Performing other duties, as may be required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A high school diploma is required. An associate degree in early childhood education or a related field, Child Development Associate credential or a Technical Pathway is helpful.
- The ability to pass a background check, willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification and participating in any necessary trainings to meet the qualifications for "Assistant Teacher" as defined by the Office of Childcare Licensing for the State of Delaware.
