Assistant Teacher In Gilford

Summary
The position of Assistant Teacher includes assisting the Lead Teacher in fostering an environment to promote Learning By The Lakes Academy Inc’s core values of learning, passionate, creative, friendship and partnership; as well as the mission statement of Learning By The Lakes Academy Inc’s “to make learning creative, engaging and exciting for all children”. Lead teachers will prepare lesson plans that are engaging and interactive to the age group they are teaching.
Duties
Essential Duties and Functions:
1.Day to Day Caretaker
1.Assist in creating a safe and welcoming environment for children in your care
2.Change children’s diapers every two hours or more often as needed.
3.Take potty-trained children to the restroom on an as-needed basis.
4.Comfort children that are struggling with any aspects of their self-regulation’s ability (feelings sad, angry, hurt etc.)
5.Report any injuries to the director immediately and provide care according to your ability.
6.Assist children in falling asleep – this may include rubbing their backs, rocking or playing quiet music.
2.Education and Behavior Management
1.Assist the lead Teacher in executing the lesson plans they have prepared
2.Help to create an environment that fosters learning through play by having activities available to children all day, every day.
3.Use appropriate, positive behavior management techniques for children in care
4.Help to decorate room and create spaces/boards that represent the themes of curriculum
5.Refrain from negative discipline, yelling, or any type of corporal punishment. This is a zero-tolerance policy and failing to comply with result in immediate termination
3.Training/Compliance
1.Follow policy, procedures and child care licensing rules
2.Maintain required training hours (on and off sited)
3.Seek out additional training in areas of interest/need
4.Refrain from using your cellphone in classrooms
4.Maintaining Procedures
1.Maintain appropriate rations in each classroom during the morning hours and/or evening hours
2.Follow procedures in emergency handbook if an emergency were to arise
3.Keep doors locked at all times and follow security procedures as outlined in training.
1.Be comfortable checking IDs for any unknown guests and follow sign in/out procedure.
4.Follow all Policy Procedures that were reviewed with you during training.
5.Familiarizing yourself with the State of New Hampshire Childcare Licensing Book.
Requirements
Requirements:
Essential qualifications:

• Be at least 16 years of age; and
• Work with children only under the direct supervision and observation of a staff person who meets at least the minimum qualifications of an associate teacher.
• Notwithstanding above, Assistant Teachers shall only be alone with a child or group of children if the following conditions are met:
• The center director has approved the specific Assistant Teacher to do this, with approval documented in the employee’s file;
• The employee has been deemed eligible to work pursuant to RSA 170-E:7, III.
• The employee has at least 3 months of experience at the program.
• The employee has completed the required trainings pursuant to He-C 4002.30(a); and
• The specific activities that the Assistant Teacher may be alone with children include:

§ Walking children:

• To or from a bathroom.
• To or from receiving first aid treatment.
• To or from a bus stop; and
• From one classroom or area to another within the licensed premises.

§ Supervising an ill child while waiting for pick-up by a parent.
§ Supervising a group of children for up to 5 minutes when other child care personnel leave the classroom to do a task that cannot be completed by the Assistant Teacher; or
§ Supervising any children that may otherwise be without direct staff supervision pursuant to HE-C 4002.19
