Job description

Overview
ASSISTANT SHIFT SUPERVISOR
Do you have a passion for empowering adolescent girls to achieve their full potential? Are you currently studying psychology, behavioral science, social work, family studies, or any other related field? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, then New Haven is the place for you to find meaningful work and gain valuable experience in the clinical field!
ABOUT NEW HAVEN RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER
New Haven is a residential treatment center for adolescent girls ages 14-18 and their families. We have two campuses in Utah: Spanish Fork and Saratoga Springs. We provide the teens we serve with residential treatment and advanced academics in a comfortable, home-like environment. We specialize in complex issues including traumatic stress, family problems, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, attachment, eating disorders, substance abuse, and personality disorders. Our expert therapists facilitate healing by focusing on the family.
We value our Youth Mentors and understand that, without them, there would be no one to implement our programs and help our residents move toward healing. This is why we provide our staff with a fun workplace, two company parties each year, and meals during their shift.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH MENTOR
So, what do our youth mentors do? Is it just glorified babysitting? Nope. Please read on!
The day-to-day life of a Youth Mentor can be extremely rewarding, but with any reward comes challenges. A typical shift includes assisting the girls with their day-to-day activities. You monitor and care for the physical, emotional, and social needs of New Haven's students. Most of your time is spent participating in activities with our teen students. This can include going to the movies or museums, cooking meals, day hiking, river rafting, camping, and more! While participating in these fun activities, you ensure that our students are being safe with themselves and those around them. Because of all the time you spend with these teens, you are able to develop healthy and meaningful staff/student relationships as they grow and progress within the program.
You will also have many other responsibilities including teacher aide duties, minor food prep responsibilities, attending groups with students, ensuring the safety of students, and maintaining boundaries. You provide supervised therapeutic services to adolescents with behavioral and emotional difficulties for the purpose of meeting the goals of each teen's treatment plan. You have the opportunity to work alongside the therapists to create and implement interventions.
