A full-time, non-merit, Assistant State's AttorneySenior Trial Attorney vacancy exists in the State's Attorney's Office for A Government Entity, Criminal Prosecution Division.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within A Government Entity Government Classification and Compensation Plan.
A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

An Assistant State's AttorneySenior Trial Attorney in Circuit Court will
Essential Job Duties:
  • Supervise a specific division and oversee all employees, attorneys and support staff in that division.
  • Handle hundreds of cases a year.
  • Handle Pray Jury Trials, felony cases, etc.
  • Handle criminal misdemeanor cases including domestic assaults, thefts, auto thefts,
  • Identity thefts and hundreds of miscellaneous other misdemeanors.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland, or eligible to waive into the bar of the State of Maryland.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the Maryland and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, as well as the Local Rules for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and Rules applicable to other courts and tribunals as may be applicable, and the Rules of Professional Responsibility.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local law.
  • Knowledge of County best practices and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex matters.
  • Communicate with exceptional oral and written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with others (inside and outside the Office of Law).
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • A strong sense of ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work with the public and various agencies.
  • Strong writing and drafting skills.
  • Strong technology skills, including the ability to coordinate and conduct electronic discovery, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office software and legal research platforms such as Westlaw.
  • A willingness to perform with minimal administrative support.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
At time of interview, applicant will be required to submit a Certificate of Good Standing from the Maryland Court of Appeals.
Character Requirement
All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation.
Citizenship Requirement
All applicants must be citizens of the United States at the time of appointment.
