Mate of Towing

Minimum Requirements:

• Mate 200 Gross Ton or more
• Near Coastal or Oceans
• Mate of Towing Endorsement (Commercial Assitance Towing does not meet Mate of Towing requirements)
• STCW Endorsement

Job Description: Mate

Essential Function:

He is in charge of the operation of the vessel while the master is off duty. He is the person in charge if the master is incapacitated.

Reports to: Master

Description of Duties:

· Acts as the person in charge in the master’s absence.

· Assists in navigating and maneuvering the vessel.

· Assists master in the implementation of the VSP Vessel Security Plan.

· Serves as officer in charge of the Navigation Watch.

· Assists master as directed to maintain vessel seaworthiness.

· Ensure emergency response preparedness.

· Provide immediately available and serviceable lifesaving and firefighting equipment.

· Ensure appropriate safe and clean crew accommodation.

· Conduct and report the required audits, inspections, training, drills, and exercises.

· Effectively implement the Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS).

· Develop direct tasks for crew members, be a team leader and evaluate crew members accordingly.

· Review voyage plan, confirm accuracy and present any issues or discrepancies noted.

· Participates in all training, drills, and exercises.

· Performs assigned firefighting, man overboard, and abandon ship duties as assigned on the Station Bill.

· Project a positive company image and maintain professional, cordial relationships with customers, pilots, terminal personnel, and the public at all times.

· Other duties may be assigned by upper management.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $450.00 - $550.00 per day

Schedule:

• 12 hour shift
