JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The McEntaffer Research Group at Penn State has an immediate opening for an Assistant Research Professor (non-tenure track) to work on advanced instrumentation for UV/X-ray astronomy.
The current programs include development and testing of UV and X-ray diffraction gratings for future large NASA missions. The group also builds UV and X-ray spectrographs for suborbital rockets to flight demonstrations of these technologies. The gratings at the heart of these spectrographs are created using custom nanofabrication techniques.
Education and Experience
A Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, or a related field plus a minimum of 1-2 years of prior postdoctoral experience is required for this position.
Previous experience with some, or all, of the following is desired:
Candidates are encouraged to apply even if their experience is limited to just a subset of the topics listed above, provided there is sufficient inclination towards laboratory Instrumentation and Nanofabrication. The applicant will also be encouraged to develop their own programs and initiatives.
