Postion may require rotating schedule during the months of summer operations (May-August). Develops implements, and supervises program activities and events.
Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates part-time Recreation Center staff; supervises the day-to-day work of part-time staff. Participates in the preparation of the annual budget; monitors expenditures and revenues. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints; responds to inquiries; provides program information to interested patrons.
Coordinates the maintenance of the facility and program equipment which may include operational pool equipment. Assists the Supervisor in coordinating the requisition of supplies and equipment for the facility. Registers patrons for recreation programs, classes, and memberships; collects registration fees and payments for merchandise sales.
Coordinates with community organizations to schedule special programs and events; prepares rooms for program activities, meetings, and events. Prepares and maintains department records and correspondence. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. Typical Decisions: The incumbent must establish performance measures for part-time staff and evaluate performance against those standards. He or she must be able to identify facility and equipment safety and maintenance problems and work with the supervisor to determine the course of action needed to address them.
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of: Recreation and leisure activities programming; maintenance practices of recreation equipment and facilities; CPR and first aid; community resources and services available for special needs and various disabilities; group dynamics; behavior management techniques. Skill in: Position requires sufficient oral and written communication skills; interacting effectively and professionally with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, and the general public; demonstrating organizational skills to effectively assist in the supervision of the day-to-day operations of the facility or program area and the part-time staff. Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration or related field preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the development and implementation of recreation and leisure activity programs. Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements Licenses and Certifications: American Red Cross issues CPR and AED certification. Additional aquatics certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Work is performed throughout the Recreation Complex, standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull. Employees may be required to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Employees work in an environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes when working in the pool area.
Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
