Job Posting Summary
The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy University is seeking candidates for a full-time multiple-year contract Assistant Professor in Social Work for its undergraduate (BSW) program. We welcome applications from candidates with strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment. In addition, candidates should have some knowledge of the Council on Social Work Education assessment process. Candidates must have a commitment to working in a historically Hispanic institution and a multi-cultural setting.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Teaching is a primary responsibility for multiple-year contract faculty. Core faculty are expected to teach nine months/year and four courses per semester in the Social Work program. Course assignments may include practice, policy, research, and human behavior. Expert skill and knowledge in social policy and/or political Social Work is preferred. Didactic lectures may be taught in person on the Dobbs Ferry or Bronx campuses and/or through distance learning technology. Teaching responsibilities are at the discretion of the Department Head. Teaching duties also include:
  • Contributing to curriculum, resource, program, and subject design as well as review as required to ensure that learning and teaching across the curriculum reflects Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
  • Continuously improving personal teaching and learning, including developing a comprehensive teaching portfolio
  • Complying with all policies and procedures relating to teaching and learning and making every effort to contribute to the continuous improvement and effectiveness of administrative practices related to teaching and learning.
  • Participating in scholarly activities that influence and enhance learning and teaching in the program, school, and University.
  • Contributing to internal and external reviews and accreditation/re-affirmation processes.
  • Participating in the curriculum development of a Master of Social Work.
Service is also a primary responsibility for multiple-year contract faculty. Core faculty are expected to participate in departmental, school, and University committees and assessment projects as indicated by CSWE. Participation in relevant professional societies is desirable.
As a core faculty in the Social Work program, contributing to the program's accreditation/re-affirmation processes, assessment activities, curriculum updates and student engagement initiatives is expected. As a core faculty member within the Social Work program, active contribution to the program's accreditation/re-affirmation procedures, assessment endeavors, curriculum enhancements, and initiatives promoting student engagement is expected.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and a commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Familiarity with the Council on Social Work (CSWE) standards and assessment processes.
  • Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate currency in the field through professional development and/or scholarly involvement as evidenced by publications, research, and grants within Social Work or related fields.

Education Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a Master of Social Work degree and a doctorate in a related field of study; a Ph.D. in Social Work or a DSW degree is preferred.
  • Candidates must have a license in Social Work and at least two years of professional experience in Social Work practice.
Physical/Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies
Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
