Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  1. Ability to teach a variety of Trumpet and brass-related subjects, including graduate-level courses in brass literature and brass pedagogy, as well as chamber music, trumpet ensemble, and other courses in music
  2. Experience teaching applied trumpet at the university level
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within and outside of the university, regionally, nationally, and internationally

Required Qualifications
  1. An earned doctorate in trumpet performance or a closely related field is required prior to the start date of the position
  2. Evidence of significant performance experience and professional activity and/or research as a performing artist (e.g., soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and/or other genres of performance) that demonstrates the potential to emerge as a leader in the field of Trumpet performance.
  3. Evidence of excellence in the teaching of applied trumpet
  4. Ability to recruit and retain a talented and appropriately sized studio of undergraduate and graduate trumpet students
  5. Ability and desire to direct student research, including advising master's and doctoral students and guiding the preparation and review of graduate-level projects (i.e., recitals, research documents)
  6. Ability and desire to perform service duties including, but not limited to, recruiting, program-building, curricular review, and programmatic assessment

About the Department and/or College
The School of Music is NASM accredited and offers the B.A. in Music, the B.M. in Music with concentrations in Music Education, Composition, Performance, and Theory, the M.M. in Music Education, the M.M. in Music with concentrations in Composition, Conducting, Music Theory, Musicology, Piano Pedagogy, and Performance, the D.M.A. with tracks in Composition, Conducting, Performance, and Piano Pedagogy, the Ph.D. in Music Education, the Ph.D. in Fine Arts with concentrations in Arts Administration, Music Education, Musicology, and Music Theory, the Undergraduate Minor in Music, Undergraduate Certificates in Community Arts Entrepreneurship, Jazz Studies, and World Music, and Graduate Certificates in Early Music Performance Practice, Woodwind Specialty and Piano Pedagogy. A faculty of 61 full-time professors serves approximately 330 undergraduate students and 175 students involved in graduate study. The J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts comprises the School of Art, the School of Music, and the School of Theatre & Dance. With more than 120 faculty members and approximately 1,050 students, the College offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including the terminal M.F.A., D.M.A., and Ph.D. degrees.
