Job description

The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Developmental Biology. The position is a 9-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with a start date of August 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach in our two-semester sequence of introductory biology lectures and laboratories for majors, as well as additional upper level courses in their field of expertise.
Preference will be given to candidates who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise's public liberal arts mission. Successful candidates will also be expected to develop an independent research program involving undergraduate students.
This position is a full-time, 9-month commitment at the Assistant Professor level and with the potential for summer teaching and research support. The successful candidate will have a 4-4 teaching load (or the equivalency taking laboratory contact hours into consideration). In addition to teaching and research, duties include serving the department and college on various committees; advising students; and assisting the department chair with assessment and other duties as needed.
Successful candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; should have the demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level; must have a Ph.D. (ABD candidates will be considered but must have the Ph.D. completed by the date of appointment) in Developmental Biology or a related field. Candidates with a background in bioinformatics will be given special consideration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
