Job Description:
The Department of Theatre, Art, and Graphic and Animation Design in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position (F0012) at the rank of Assistant Professorof Art in Jewelry/Metalsmithing beginning August 2024. The successful candidate should be willing to contribute to the intellectual and academic life of the department through scholarship, teaching and service.
We are seeking a versatile colleague who is a practicing artist dedicated to teaching jewelry and metalsmithing in a traditional and contemporary art context. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the curriculum and creating courses that will enhance the studio arts program, as well as have an interest in collaborating across disciplines. The selected candidate will be expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester, including courses in jewelry, metalsmithing, foundations and professional practices. The candidate will have experience with technical skills related to centrifugal casting and metal forming techniques (sinking, piercing, forging and soldering). Additional experience in sculpture, wood, welding, fabrication or digital technology, such as 3D printing, laser cutting and utilizing CNC routers is preferred. The successful candidate will help shape the design in crafts concentration, develop career goals for our design in crafts students and manage the program's coordination with the studio faculty. Position includes oversight of metals studio including the maintaining and ordering of instructional supplies. In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are also expected to advise students in their major, develop a research program involving undergraduates, participate in service at the department and University level, participate in student assessments and maintain their scholarship.
Requirements:

• MFA degree in Jewelry/Metalsmithing required.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have taught at the university level. Two years of teaching beyond completion of the MFA is strongly preferred.
• The candidate should have a strong exhibition record.
• The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to student success in writing and critical thinking
• The candidate should demonstrate the ability to adapt teaching methods and learning environments to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse college population.

Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
