Description:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Tennessee flagship campus in Knoxville is seeking applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor inEarly Modern French studies, with a focus on the 18th century, to begin August 1, 2024. To broaden our programs, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the field, such as Transatlantic studies, diaspora studies, medical humanities, and/or environmental humanities, are especially welcome. Expertise in theater is also desirable.


Qualifications:
Candidates should demonstrate their record of, or high potential for excellence in the following areas:Research commensurate to the expectations of an R-1 institution, through a coherent research program producing peer-reviewed publications;Teaching across the undergraduate (upper division) and graduate (MA and PhD) levels (2-2 teaching load), through teaching record, philosophy, evaluations, and/or potential contributions to the French curriculum at UTK;Service contributions to department, university, and/or professionThe University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a land-grant university and values engaged forms of research/scholarship/creative activity, teaching and service, and considers evidence of these commitments in the records of applicants.Additionally, the Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.In addition to addressing their qualifications for the position in their application, candidates may describe how they would help promote students’ access to and inclusion in their teaching and research/scholarship/creative activities.Minimum Qualifications. PhD in French or related field is required by time of appointment. Native or near-native proficiency in French and English is essential.
