Assistant Professor, Director of Choral Activities (Tenure Track)

Essential Functions
The School of Music at the University of Nebraska at Omaha seeks a collaborative individual to engage in teaching, research and service within an established and comprehensive college music program of undergraduate and graduate students at a metropolitan university. The person selected will 1) direct choral ensembles; 2) administer the choral area: 3) teach conducting courses; and 4) be responsible for building a record of research/creative activity at the state, national, and international levels.
The School of Music, one of three academic units within the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media, is located in its own performing arts complex. With a faculty of 45, the School enrolls approximately 220 students and offers the Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in Music Education and Performance, a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in Music Studies, Music Technology, Jazz, and Entrepreneurship, and the Master of Music degree with concentrations in Conducting, Music Education, Jazz, and Performance. The School of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha, a vibrant, metropolitan university in the state's largest city, has an enrollment of approximately 15,000 students. The campus is a residential campus with the addition of several new and beautifully-appointed residence halls. UNO is classified as a doctoral/research university in the latest Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education Classification from the Carnegie Foundation. The campus is located in the heart of Omaha, a cosmopolitan city of more than 600,000 (1.2 million including the larger Omaha metro area), which is known for its excellent public school systems, strong economic base and vibrant performing arts venues. Additional Duties
Willingness to contribute to all aspects of the School of Music including active involvement in the recruitment and retention of students, participation on academic unit committees, participation in community engagement activities, and work with faculty and students in a collaborative environment. Additional duties may include other courses based on the candidate's strengths and/or needs of the School of Music.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Music, eligible for appointment to graduate faculty,
and K-12 teaching experience (minimum of three (3) years
Preferred Qualifications
1) Doctoral degree; 2) At least one degree in Conducting; 3) Teaching at the university level; 4) Record of building a successful choral program; 5) Evidence of mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and supporting diversity, equity, access and inclusion (DEAI) in the classroom; and 6) record of an established agenda for research and creative activity
