Mooresville Graded School DistrictAssistant Principal Job Title: Assistant Principal - High SchoolReports to: Chief of Schools/PrincipalStatus: 11 Months, ExemptSalary: NC Assistant Principal Salary Pay Scale Qualifications: Masters's Degree in Educational or School Leadership (Administration or Supervision); NC Principal's License; Successful teaching and coaching experience. Position Overview: The successful assistant principal in Mooresville Graded Schools supports the vision and goals of the school principal in leading all aspects of the school and school community to ensure students reach their full potential. Central to this mission is the ability to assist teachers in preparing students for life in the 21st century and beyond.

Assistant Principals aid the Principal in enhancing a learning environment where sound curriculum and instruction are implemented for every child, every day. With minimal supervision, the assistant principal helps supervise and lead all staff. As the assistant building level administrator, the assistant principal carries out leadership duties for the success of the school.

Responsibilities, Duties, and Expectations: Instructional and Cultural LeadershipDefines and models a commitment to all children by supporting the principal in:Pursuing and planning for positive academic outcomes for students that are congruent with the district's mission and visionResearching and maintaining current knowledge of educational theory, practice, and trends integrated with technological advancements to lead in a one-to-one districtInitiating, designing, and implementing school-wide instructional programs meeting the specific learning needs of all students.Strategically monitoring and assessing school-wide instructional programs to ensure that it meets the specific learning needs of all studentsEffectively coaching and mentoring faculty and staff members in their daily instructional practice as well as their management of student conduct and collegial relationships Micro-Political and Human Resource LeadershipAssists the principal in involving stakeholders in the decision-making process for the school by:Creating an environment conducive to effective communication among all by establishing formal and informal systems where stakeholders can provide consistent input to enhance the school culture and ensure student successCollaborating with the representation of all stakeholders to develop and communicate the school's mission and vision as aligned with the district's mission and visionCommunicating effectively with all stakeholders as the formal liaison between the school, the district, and the community in order to problem-solve and strategize for student successConducting and facilitating faculty/staff meetings for continuous professional development and training of educators to enhance student achievementOrganizing and maintaining a School Improvement Team made up of representatives from all stakeholders for the purpose of making joint decisions to improve and enhance school programmingStrategic LeadershipSupports the principal in creating and sustaining a school environment that fosters systemic vision and culture by:Consistently promoting the vision and positive culture through visible artifacts, school-wide activities, teacher-led events, and student-led effortsExpecting and rewarding individual and team endeavors that align with the school's mission and visionPlanning, ensuring, and assessing the congruence of school activities with the school's mission and visionInforming and involving district leadership in the school's events, activities, and visionary efforts External Development and Managerial LeadershipAids the principal in seeking support from all constituencies in obtaining commitment and resources needed for school effectiveness and improvement by: Preparing and administering the school budget for efficient, effective, and productive school functioningCollaborating with parents, students, community members, and staff regarding how to best meet the needs of the school community to ensure a safe and nurturing environment conducive to maximizing student learningAssessing the need for and facilitating parent and community training and events related to the progress of the overall school programSupervising and evaluating the extracurricular program which complements the academic focus of the schoolStrives to procure the necessary materials and resources for success in the school communityParticipates in the selection of and evaluates all employees assigned to the school making recommendations for employment to the Chief Human Resources Officer.Assumes responsibility for compliance with all school laws, regulations, and policiesDelegates authority to responsible school personnel, as neededCompletes other duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools and Superintendent. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability and willingness to market and recruit. Ability to serve as a strong instructional leader and lead the school in fully implementing curriculum and instruction.

Adept at forging positive relationships between parents, the community, and business partners. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong critical reading and writing skills to analyze reports, disaggregate data and write reports and memorandums.

Ability to analyze data to identify school strengths and challenges and plan accordingly. Ability to engage and motivate leaders; ability to make decisions and manage time well. Skilled in evaluating and improving teachers' performance; strong ability to coach staff for growth and continuous improvement.

Ability to manage and monitor to ensure sound fiscal and budgetary practices. Ability to perform at a high level, as a team player, in a team environment. Ability to relate well to diverse groups of people.

Ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with shifting properties. Physical Requirements: The following list includes the physical requirements of the position: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicleMust be able to perform basic life operational functions of standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motionsMust be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objectsMust possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
