Job Summary
  • This is a seasonal position working at the Town's outdoor pools, which are open May through September. Work week and working hours will vary with assignments Monday-Sunday. Evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts may be required. The duration of the season and the operational hours may vary based on current health and safety guidelines.
  • The Assistant Pool Manager supports the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics and Pool Manager with the supervision of lifeguards and Front Desk Attendants, general operation of the outdoor pools and scheduling of staff.
  • In the absence of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is in charge of the supervision of lifeguards who are on duty during their scheduled shift.
  • This position will assist in guarding the pool when necessary.
  • Requires high customer contact both in person and on the phone.
  • Works under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics and Pool Manager on duty.

Essential Job Duties
  • Supervises all lifeguards and Front Desk Attendants on duty and report any problems to the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics.
  • In addition to the duties of instructor/lifeguard, acts as liaison between the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics and the lifeguard staff.
  • Assists the Aquatics Administrative Coordinator - Aquatics.
  • Aids in creating weekly schedules for the lifeguard staff. Posts lifeguards to areas of duty, adds or shifts lifeguards to ensure proper coverage of the pool facility.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool and monitoring and maintaining the pool filtration system.
  • Supervises and assists in all cleaning duties and check off each guard at the end of the day/shift.
  • Assists in developing and facilitating in-service training programs.
  • Monitors the performance of staff engaged in front desk check-in, and life guarding.
  • Makes daily safety checks of pool equipment and the surrounding area, and passes patrons' concerns on to his/her supervisor.
  • Prevents accidents through enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of staff and patrons using the pool and the surrounding area.
  • Represents the Town of Superior in a positive, professional manner to the community.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those residents and visitors contacted in the course of work.
  • Attends weekly management team meetings.
  • Attends, schedules, and facilitates sections of staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Assist with on-going staff evaluations and skills audits.
  • Verify timesheets and hours worked for all employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to positively interact with the general public.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, pool maintenance, personnel supervision, and public relations.
  • Ability and working knowledge to assist in all aspects of pool operations
  • Ability for task initiatives and completion
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated use in equipment such as pool vacuums, cash register, computer, and the pool mechanical system.
  • Ability to act quickly and remain calm in emergency situations, analyzes and corrects facility hazards; and will learn and adhere to the facility emergency action procedures.
  • Ability to rescue using lifeguarding and CPR/AED skills.
  • Demonstrate and maintain the Town's physical requirements.

Supplemental Information
Special Licenses, Registration, or Certifications Required:
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer required.
  • At least two years of experience in lifeguarding required or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Previous aquatics experience and pool maintenance required.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification desirable.
