Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach
Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for two Assistant Men’s Basketball Coaches, these are 12-month positions within our athletic department. Assistant Coaches provide administrative, instructional, academic and recruiting support services under the direction and supervision of the Head Coach. These positions are responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sport program as well as possible additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in all aspects of the student-athlete development and performance of the men’s basketball program.
- Assist with organizing and leading preseason and off-season conditioning.
- Assessment and recruitment of student-athletes with excellent academic background to a NCAA Division II institution.
- Assist in scouting and in-season film evaluation and breakdown.
- Assist the head coach in preparation of a competitive team schedule.
- Provide support in coordinating camps, clinics, and fundraising activities.
- Monitor academic progress and eligibility for the men’s basketball program.
- Serve as a leader, mentor, and role model to the student-athletes of the program.
- Abide by NCAA and NSIC rules and regulations.
- Assist in continued development of positive public relations with alumni and the community.
- Attend department meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience as a head or assistant Basketball Coach is required, collegiate coaching and recruiting experience preferred.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep
appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.

ellowship Openings
A graduate fellowship is a scholarship that is offered to students hoping to pursue their Master’s in Sports Administration and Leadership and execute 480 hours of internship within the Athletic Department at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. It is an unpaid position that offers a tuition benefit and will be based on the admission into the MSAL program as well as completion of this application including the required essay and an interview with a member of the Augustana Athletics Department.
Augustana Graduate Fellowships are competitive with limited availability per area of interest. Applicants must have posted a Bachelor’s Degree prior to starting the MSAL program. Student-Athletes and Graduate Assistants are not eligible for the Graduate Fellowship Scholarship.
