Assistant Medical Director - 500762

SUMMARY:

Serves as a member of the SHC leadership team, assisting the Medical Director providing leadership and managerial oversight of the clinical functions in SHC, and the development and implementation of policies and initiatives. The Assistant Medical Director assumes responsibility for the operations of the Student Health Center in the Medical Director's absence. Assistant Medical Director provides health care, counseling, and health education to University of Richmond students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • In the Medical Director's absence, assumes all administrative responsibilities necessary to insure and maintain the daily operation of the Student Health Center
  • Works with the Nursing Supervisor on health history records policies and guidelines
  • Attends staff meetings, HWB Unit meetings and Student Development meetings as appropriate
  • Develops educational trainings for clinical staff
  • Serves as Preceptor for medical students and graduate medical residents
  • Serves as on call medical provider for SHC in rotation with other medical providers
  • Occasionally serves on search committees and other areas of University service
  • Accepts delegated responsibilities for special projects or committee assignments as requested by the Director
  • Advocates for awareness, understanding and the diversity and inclusion of all people in Health & Well-being facilities, programs and communications while providing a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in Health & Well-being.
  • Participates in CME activities for renewal of licensure and maintenance of clinical competencies

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Direct patient care by examining, diagnosing and treating students for illness and injury, as well as health maintenance, according to the accepted medical standards in the field of college health
  • Confers with medical specialists, pertinent public health officials, and clinical psychologists for the appropriate management of medical and psychiatric illnesses
  • Supervision and performance of minor surgical procedures
  • Referral to appropriate medical specialists, urgent care clinics, or emergency room facilities if care is needed beyond the scope of services provided by the SHC
  • Communicates with patients' local or primary care physicians regarding management of acute and chronic illness; medication adjustments
  • Participates in peer review, chart review and all quality improvement activities in SHC
  • Works with students and the UR community to provide education and outreach on health issues impacting our students
  • Serves as an alternative collaborating physician for the Nurse Practitioners working in SHC

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Possesses a high degree of initiative as well as the ability to work independently
  • Expertise in delivery of outpatient/ambulatory primary care for diverse young adult population in a residential college setting
  • Excellent clinical skills in primary care medicine diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health care problems, prescribing medications, health maintenance, and crisis intervention
  • Board certification in one of the following primary care specialties: Family Medicine, Med/Peds, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team including nurse practitioners, registered nurses and medical assistants
  • Proficiency to use an electronic health record
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams-including psychological services, case management and health promotion

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of Bachelor's degree
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine
  • Completion of residency training program in a primary care specialty
  • 5-7 years significant experience in a college health or ambulatory care setting serving a diverse young adult population
  • Maintenance of board certification in a primary care specialty
  • Valid Virginia medical license or ability to obtain Virginia medical license
  • Valid DEA license
  • Minimum 5 years post residency work experience
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at University of Richmond

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • This is an 11-month position (June OFF)
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week with nights/weekends on-call rotation

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Salary commensurate with experience
